These whistles are soooooo loud. My kids freaked out when I tested them. They will definitely be heard from a good distance. The compass certainly seemed to work and moved consistently. I feel confident in these coming through in any type of emergency. Getting a two pack for this price is a steal of a deal!

I do emergency response and we are required to carry a whistle and a compass at all times. This item cut the weight of my go kit because I no longer have to carry a separate compass.Granted the compass is very basic, and because it is small you will not be able to resolve very small variations in angles, but for very basic navigation and orienting a map in the right direction, it is plenty enough.The whistle is loud, although not the loudest I had, it will draw attention for sure. I like that it is a 2 pack (I have an extra one if I need to give to another responder) and each whistle comes with a basic lanyard, too.I might end up changing the lanyard because I found it very basic, and it lacks an emergency breakaway attachment (I don't want to get strangled by this thing). But at this price, cannot complain.There are many uses for this item, obviously sports and law enforcement, but other people should consider it too (for instance motorcycle riders, who may become disabled on the side of a road after an accident without a way to call for help).Good item!
