This is a fast and economical method of changing the gender on ‘D’ type ports. Connect two female serial cables together, or convert a 9 pin female/male connection to a 9 pin male/female connection .
Save the cost and hassle of buying a new cable by just changing the gender of your port and using the cable you already have.

I should have looked at the pictures closer. To be a gender changer it must be the same gender on each side. Either male/male or female/female. So these have a male on one side and a female on the other side. So about the only thing they do is extend you DB9 about 1/4".The are straight through connectors that server no purpose.Price as reviewed $6.99. 2pcs Rs232 Serial Cable 9 Pin DB9 Male to Female Gender Changer Coupler Adapter Connector

Though it is becoming less common, you still run into serial port connections that are somehow opposite of what you need them to be, either physically like these adapters, or electrically. This pair of adapters, along with a null modem (electrically swap T-R) and you can handle most any RS232 situation that comes along!
