I imagine that if you're looking to install this expansion card, you probably know exactly what it's for.My use case was to stuff a couple of extra hard drives into a media server box. The motherboard in that machine disables two of the onboard SATA ports if you use the M.2 slot, so this card gained me back the two that I lost because of that.Properly plug-and-play, Windows 10 picked it right up without any driver shenanigans, and the one hard drive I connected to it showed up immediately in the Disk Management console. It's a pretty basic tool for a basic job, but it seems to do that job exactly as expected.

This card works and does what it says it will, but I wonder what the goal of it is. Computers are moving away from SATA, but the vast majority of motherboards still have SATA ports. This controller only has two ports, so it doesn't seem to be targeted towards building a NAS...Sure its SATA 3 (6Gbps), but if using it to upgrade the SATA ports on an older computer you will be limited in speed by the PCI-E bus...If you computer is so old that it doesn't have SATA ports, this probably isn't going to help there wither as such a machine likely also doesn't have PCI-E slots...I do want to point out an error in one of the product pictures as of my review. The second picture refers to this as SATA 3.0 as 6 Gbp/s which is correct, but it compares it to "SATA 2.0" at "480mbp/s" which is incorrect. SATA II (SATA 2) is 3Gbps (half the speed of SATA 3, not less than 10% the speed). Where they got this number is from USB 2.0, a completely separate technology from SATA.In the end it has its uses, but they are very niche. Its not worth buying as an upgrade, but can be useful if you have some unusual specific use.
