it seems to be light weight but i have had no trouble in using it. bolt pattern allows me to bolt it down to a drill press easily. it does everything i need to use it for

I purchased this product approximately one month ago. I must of missed the 'fine print.' Because I was looking for a "full sized" compound (x-y axis) vice for my "Porter Cable Drill Press. This product is a MINI compound (x-y axis) vice. So it's "base" will be SMALLER than the "table" of the drill press and therefore more problematic to secure. (Especially if you intend on using clamps). However I was able to 'adapt' it to the drill press by placing four "nuts and bolts" (one on each corner of the base) therefore connecting it to the drill press table. But one should be aware that the nuts and bolts that fit well for the compound vise may be "too small" for the grooves of the Drill Press Table. In my case I used "four washers" along with the nuts and bolts (at the bottom of the Drill Press Table). In that way the washers stopped the bolts from coming through the Drill Press Table (Pics included with this review). NOTE: there are those who say that one SHOULD NOT use a "Drill Press as a Milling Machine." As for me I have a 'limited budget' and live in a small apartment. So I started off milling 'Polymers' and then gradually moved up to "Aluminum". And I would suggest that if you are going to do milling work with a drill press that you "TAKE YOUR TIME" while milling.

I read other reviews and most are right on. It worked out very well for my hobby projects to do some light milling on a drill press, had to snug up the gibbs but I am happy with the vise

Works great for what I bought it for. Based on the reviews, it exceeded my expectations. Just have to remember that no matter how much you spend on a vise it won't make a drill press into a milling machine. That being said I was able to drill out what I could in the pocket with standard bits then use an end mill bit and the vise's x and y slides to finish it. Never had to remove or adjust the work from start to finish.

I've bought and returned four other cross slide vises, should have bought this from the start I recommend it highly, it's not perfect but you are putting it on a drill press so perfect isn't what you are striving for I should have waited it broke two weeks in don't buy it for milling it won't take the stress

I was a little nervous with some of the reviews but there's not much else in this price range so I went for it. Using it for hobby milling it certainly does the job and it's a great deal. I've found tightening the adjuster bolts on the firm side yields the best result. There is a 1/4 turn of play in the dials but if if the adjusters are tight there is no slop or vibration. Overall I'm happy with it.

The unit is fine for its price and size but if use it with drill press or other standard strength equipment, it causes issues. This unit does not hold its adjustments, has lots of flex and twist. You can help it by adding steel to the jaws before you tighten something up.

This vise is welcome addition to garage workshop, lathe and drill press. As previous reviewers have commented there is sloppiness in x/y direction that needs to be remedied . . . I used pop can shims to reduce play between travel nut and nut housing. Still sloppy (maybe 5 thou;) that can be managed when feeding.Adjustable gibbs are tight and true. Light weight, occasional use will be acceptable, this product will not do well for everyday use.

I've now tried four compound cross vices (from other manufacturers) for mill work and this is the first one that actually travels back and forth and side to side very well right out of the box. The first three (I returned) were made of heavy metal and so hard to move that no amount of oil or grease helped enough. This one doesn't yet need lubrication and works great.I've read other reviews of this item and I understand some of the criticisms made about being a little sloppy. That's true, but one reviewer (Ironcock D.) said he re-machined two small parts (he called them "brass pins") and his unit now works extremely well ("accurate to the thousandth of the inch"). I'm not sure what he means by "brass pins" and I wish I knew because I'd try to do what he did. But my needs don't require that kind of accuracy.I certainly recommend this unit if you don't want to pay a bundle and if you, like me, don't need perfection.

I bought it because of the price and also from some of the other reviews so I knew what to expect. It’s very light duty it’s got some play in it but it does what I needed to do which is hold small items so I can position and drill them.

I knew out of the box it was going to be sloppy. For $50-$60 what do you expect? What I didn't know but figured I could improve on is the accuracy. Knowing it would be cheaply made (and surprisingly, it isn't!) figured that the accuracy would be poor. The only serious problem with this the way the compound vise is actually moved. Both screws pass through individual brass pins. Since they are individual, they move freely of each other affording the bolts a lot of play.I was going to have a friend machine me a new, one piece drum but decided to do it myself.I through drilled both drums simultaneously one on top of the other to keep them aligned and then tapped them. Using a screw, I connected both drums, tightened them solidly, and reinstalled the now one piece compound adjusting drum into the unit.It is now accurate to the thousandth of the inch, no play, no slop. I highly recommend this piece if you are capable of making this modification. It took me no more than 30 mins. to complete the mod and a bit longer to reassemble since I don't look at paperwork for dis or reassembly.

Works well for small jobs, reasonably accurate, lightweight bu sturdy, smooth operation. Good design; handles are clear of the table without the need for spacers under the vise. Overall, great value and IMO much better alternative than those cheap cast iron "boat anchors". Realistically, who expects to buy a $40 vise for milling, anyway? If this product was offered in a in a 4" or 5" size, I'd buy another.
