Other than a slightly different appearance (which is insignificant) the major difference between this and the original is that it's noticeably thicker and heavier. The extra thickness means that although it fits easily into the opening it isn't quite as snug a fit. It wiggles a bit. Ours does not fall out when bumped with a log but it does rattle if bumped. However, being heavier & thicker might actually help this door last longer and be less likely to break. 4.5 stars

We dropped in a large piece of almond wood and broke the refractory plate on a Defiant Model 1975 in half. Item came very well packaged and was exactly what we needed. I'm going to try to salvage the old piece with some fire cement as a cleanly broken half. The new one did have some extra ceramic from the cast at the bottom that I had to grind off a little bit of to get wedged in. Took a couple minutes nothing big. Exact replacement from the original, pricey for what it is, but stove works well.

Was very impressed with product. Tried to order from Vermont Castings. Was going to take 4-6 WEEKS! Winter would’ve been over. A bit thicker than the original. Fit better than original. I did order this to receive next day. I didn’t get it the next day, but amazon was great about refunding the extra I paid for shipping. Very happy. Very satisfied.
