So this isn't going to win first prize or anything but it certainly does get the job done. I feel if you are going to get this though get the one that has the rotation device and such. Why do I say that? Consistently to be honest. Like You can 3d print the piece to rotate it and everything but honestly you are right there making this choice then just go with the slightly more expensive option that comes with everything. Quality wise it comes out pretty decent but it did take some patch work in the software. There are better scanners yes.. but you'll also need to pay much more for them to get that level a detail. So it's all about trade offs and how much is "good enough". I'd say this is very decent for the price but if you are using ultra high end printers maybe look at the 3d maker's higher end scanners to go along with it.

I'm blown away by the performance and versatility of this handheld 3D scanner! As a hobbyist, I've been looking for a reliable and accurate scanning solution, and this device delivers. The scanner is incredibly easy to use, with intuitive controls and a user-friendly interface. The handheld design makes it perfect for scanning small to medium-sized objects, and the lightweight construction makes it comfortable to hold and maneuver. The scan quality is exceptional, with high-resolution point clouds and accurate geometry. I've scanned a variety of objects, from simple shapes to complex mechanical parts, and the results have been consistently impressive. One of the standout features of this scanner is its ability to capture fine details and textures. I've scanned objects with intricate patterns and small features, and the scanner has picked up every detail with ease. The software that comes with the scanner is also top-notch, with powerful editing and processing tools that make it easy to refine and analyze your scans.Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with this handheld 3D scanner. It's a game-changer for anyone who needs to scan objects quickly and accurately, and it's an essential tool for engineers, designers, and makers.Pros:- Easy to use and intuitive controls- High-quality scan results with accurate geometry- Handheld design for scanning small to medium-sized objects- Exceptional detail capture and texture scanning- Powerful software for editing and processing scans- Affordable

I am impressed with this little 3D scanner. It is very easy to set up, and I was very impressed with my first scan. I did a Paul Revere statue that my grandmother used to have on her mantle, and it did a fantastic job! I think I could have gotten the details in his face better had I run more texture passes, but overall I was very impressed with the output. Very easy to clean up the scan in the free software provided on the website and export to STL for use in your favorite slicer! I went ahead and picked up the tripod and turntable, as this was just the standard package. But the standard package also included the carry case that has all the spots for the tripod and turntable! Very nice, and I wasn't expecting the case! Depending on the price difference, it may be better to go with the luxury package over the standard, but you will need to make that determination. I have only done 1 scan so far, but I have a few things lined up to try. There are some limitations, like black and very shiny objects, but that can be fixed with a washable spray so the scanner can pick it up. Black absorbs too much light, and shiny reflects it. This is a problem with all 3D scanners and not just the Mole. Using it handheld seems like it will take some practice, but I'm super excited that it is capable of that! Now I just need to decide if I want the mobile kit so I don't need a computer. I also read that the apps for the mobile setup are a little better for scanning, but I cannot confirm that yet. All in all, this is a nice, compact 3D scanner. It does what it is meant to do and seems to do it very well!

Simple scan process, though confusing for first time/new users of JMStudio. When it works it yields very accurate object scans.Turntable mode has consistently given me the best results.Does not do color texture mapping but does provide greyscale.JMStudio is constantly being improved upon. It has really had significant changes for the better.Price is steep considering competing units, and the continually more affordable laser units with minimal drawbacks.JMStudio is hit or miss. There's a lot of features in the software. Tons of automatic 'smart' features can make refining a scan a breeze but often doesn't work. There's many manual options to fine tune if the automatic processes fail including combining different scan meshes to a single object.Black performance was less than expected considering the advertising. Mattes scan okay, but any gloss seems to be a problem.Reflective or transparent surfaces are extremely troublesome.System requirements are steep. JMStudio will work on lower than recommended specs, but tracking and various other features are dependent on system performance and the scanning process may be less than ideal.A static tripod + turntable is definitely the best scanning methodology in my testing.I've used this to scan in dozens of tools and parts to create negatives of for organization using Gridfinity, as well as making some helpful brackets for very difficult to measure/model locations. I'm happy with the results, but there's a lot that is left on the table too.On sale (~400) this is a good buy given the competition. MSRP (650) is simply too steep given the lacking performance given the competition, though.
