Can be used where one post cross another post at an odd angle. Note the hand-knob tightening screws.Standard 4" x 4" post material actually measures 3.5" x 3.5" which matches the measurement of this hardware set.You can attach the wood to bracket with either a 4-1/2 inch x 1/4 inch carriage bolt (3/8" holes), and/or with 2-1/2 to 3 inch decking screws (1/4" holes), or with included screws.

It is sized and built as to what is shown, but somehow I expected something a bit more robust. Not that it is a bad product per se but (and I am trying not to be a snob here, so take this with a grain of salt) I could quickly build a lot of these, and make them a lot better than these, but I am a professional welder/fabricator. I am concerned about the load it can take in compression though, as it uses friction rather than a proper hole or detent to keep it at a given height. Were I to use it for anything minorly structural I would probably drill a hole in the inner shaft at the needed height and use a graded pin rather than thumbscrews.

Not what I’d hoped. Not The best quality material for the project I’ve got going on. The base welds are not very well done and could rep Out easily. Maybe for light light work load. Sent it back about 2 hours I received it.
