I installed this gate caster on a wooden gate that is hinged on one side. Installation was relatively easy, taking less than 10 minutes. My intended purpose for this caster is to compensate for a slight sag in the gate, which is caused by gravity and the poor design of the gate panel itself. After completing installation, here are my thoughts.Since I needed to screw this caster into the wood frame of the gate, I needed to use 1/4" lag screws, 2-1/2 inches in length. By the design of this caster you are not able to use a nut driver to install screws of that length, as the opposing frame section does not have cutouts for installation tools. I ended up using a socket wrench, which worked just fine. The caster axle is spring-loaded, allowing for automatic adjustment due to sloped terrain, cracks in the pavement, small rocks, etc. That spring-loaded action kind of works against me for what I am using it for, to lift up the corner of the gate, but it turned out to work pretty well anyway. The build quality seems to be pretty good, but only time will tell how it holds up to the elements here in the upper midwest. The caster wheel feels like it can withstand some use, but that will only reveal itself over time as well.So far, I am very pleased with this gate caster, and thank you for reading my review.

Nextt to my home I have dual driveway gates--one 7' W x 6' H, one 3' W x 6' H, constructed of redwood, for access to a concrete pad that I use for parking my boat/trailer. Over time, the 7' wide gate is sagging such that I need to lift the end to open the gate. I had high hopes for this gate caster to provide the support needed to allow the gate to "roll" open without my having to lift it. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this caster for the following reasons:First, the three predrilled bolt holes in the caster bracket are for 3/8" diameter bolts, and the vendor provided 1/4" dia. (x 4" length) hex head bolts. Additionally, the vendor only provided two VERY thin washers of 0.05" thickness, and of 1/4" I.D x 5/8" O.D. This hardware is entirely too small to secure the caster bracket adequately to prevent it from moving/twisting back and forth when the gate is opened and closed. Especially when mouunted on a soft wood such as redwood. So, if I am to use this item, I will need to make a trip to the hardware store to purchase appropriately sized carriage bolts (3/8" dia. x 4" length) and washers (4 each) for my redwood fence application.Second, the bracket sleeve where the caster pin mounts is not sealed and has no provision to lubricate. Being that this is a) to be installed on an outdoor gate, and b) is fabricated from mild steel and is not galvanized or zinc plated for corrosion protection, I do not anticipate this caster will last long.Lastly, the 4" diameter caster wheel is constructed of Polyvinyl Cloride (PVC), which is soft and not very durable. It likely can manage on smooth surfaces such as finish concrete, however my driveway is rolled asphalt, and is not quite as smooth as a typical asphalt-based roadway. I do not expect the PVC caster to have a long life either. And, unfortunately again, this caster is riveted in place, therefore, I expect that in a year or three, it will be necessary to drill out the rivet and purchase a heavier duty rubber caster with a metal hub that bolts on.Maybe I expected too much, but I do know that a better quality option is available at my local Harbor Freight Store for only a few dollars more, and I would not have to buy replacement mounting hardware nor rebuild it in a very short time.

I'm using it in a grassy area and with that it does the job just not as great as it could. That is due to it not having a solid foundation under it to make it roll easily. With that can't complain about the wheel itself as I'm the one making the issues.

This has been a back saver for my back gate. This wheel has made it easy for me to open and close. It was easy to install and seems very sturdy. I love how this works. My old one was always a struggle to open and close, this is a great wheel.

We have a large wooden privacy fence double gate that is too heavy for most hinges to support. It starts to sag after about a year so we find ourselves replacing hinge hardware annually. We decided to get some spring loaded wheels to support the weight of the gate and make it more stable when in use. These wheels have done a good job of improving stability and function. My only complaint is the length of the included bolts. They're very long, probably 3" or longer. Obviously that is going to be much too long to screw into a 2x4 wooden gate support so we had to find our own bolts to attach the wheels. Would be nice if shorter bolts were included for more versatility.
