There are plenty of locks available that are TSA compatible and can be used on your checked bags when traveling by air. Some locks are made of die cast metal, and somewhat heavy for their small size. But the heavy weight really doesn't translate to more strength, because most of these locks can be easily broken and open by hand. For this reason, luggage locks don't provide true protection. They really just provide a little bit of a deterrent against someone who might otherwise choose to just open an unlocked bag.These locks are lightweight since the body is mostly made of plastic, though the shackle is metal. They still can be broken if someone really wants to get into a bag. But I think they still discourage some would-be thieves.I also like using these on carry-on and daypacks that I bring into the cabin, also to discourage someone from maybe unzipping a bag and reaching in while I am sleeping.

Our neighborhood has a bit of a homeless population issue...and we unfortunately noticed we have several who like to use our businesses outside outlets to charge cell phones while eating. Through the day it wouldn't be such an issue, but it's at night when no one is there to watch our property. We initially started just turning our outlets off, but it was also turning off our outside lights! So, I grabbed these locks to use on the outlet covers, and they work perfectly! I colored the keys and a small piece on the latch to match so I could tell them apart when needed. These were intended for luggage and for that they would work on zippers great. But repurposed they have solved our problem as well!
