My trailers are not shedded. The sun literally bakes the rubber and plastic connectors and electrical wiring. These provide inexpensive weatherproof protection for your 4-pin flat plug, both the female and male part of the connection. I keep these in my trailer spare parts chest as spares.

I have several vehicles and trailers and prefer to cover all wiring connectors when not in use. Some complain about the life the retaining rubber around the connector because it doesn't hold up. Simple solution. I have "always" zip-tied these to every connector. Less stress on the rubber and when it finally does let go? You still have a cover until you can find a new replacement. Granted for some insisting on using heavier duty connectors these might be a little small. While I use these regularly for 3 wire trailer brake (just use part of the cover for 3 wires) as well as 4 wire connectors, it isn't like I'm towing something and changing trailers on a daily basis, so the overkill of the heavier duty connectors is not only not necessary, but also not applicable. I'm very satisfied and most definitely will purchase again.

Would be ok for normal flat four. They were a bit small for what I use. I get a commercial flat four and they are a little larger then the average part.

These do the job nicely but the area of the product that you attach to the cable that allows the product to hang there when not in use, tore after a few weeks. It would be nice if there was a bit more rubber material there to make it more durable.
