Product Description

About Our Coco Liners

Our goal is to bring to our customers the best replacement liners found in the market. We specify a minimum thickness of 10mm for our molded liners.

The soft, brown coco fibers are a natural by-product from coconut farming. Our liners are manufactured in Sri Lanka (Ceylon).

  • 100% renewable resource
  • 100% natural - washed in fresh water
  • Neutral pH of 5.4 to 6.8

Molded liners are formed as a sort of tub with latex from the rubber plant and are formed to fit our planters. When they first arrive, they are generally very stiff and may stick up above your planter's rim. This is a good thing, because as time passes, the coco fibers relax into baskets. This will happen with all coco liners, so if it fits immediately at your rim, once it relaxes, you will have a gap between the top of your planter and the top of your liner allowing water and soil to escape. That's why we specify an additional 1" depth to all our molded liners.

How do you measure your coco liners?

The dimensions listed for our coco liners are the dimensions of the baskets in which they fit. The actual liners may be slightly smaller.

For instance, a 24" window hayrack liner may actually measure 23" across the back rather than 24". The other measurements we give for the window hayrack liners are the depth, which are measured top to bottom on the back. The width is measured back to front across the top.

To measure for round basket liners, measure from side to side across the top for the diameter and from top to bottom for the depth.

What Kind of Planter Liner Do I Need and What Size?

Large and Small Coco Rolls, used to make planter liners, side by side size comparison

Large and Mini Coco Roll

  • Needle punched coco fiber roll, no latex
  • Large roll measures 3 feet wide x 20 feet long.
  • Mini roll measures 2 feet wide x 10 feet long
  • Both approximately 1/2" thick.
  • Can be cut to fit your planter with very strong/sharp scissors or knife.
  • Best used in rectangular or square planters and will be easier to cut one piece to cover front, bottom, & back, then cut one piece for each side that will overlap the front/bottom/back piece. This will avoid having too much material "scrunched up" in the corners of your planter.
  • Remember to cut liner to sit slightly higher than the planter to avoid having it drop down and end up too short from the weight of the soil.
  • Planters should be filled to a final level of 1/2" from the top of your liner. Leaving the 1/2" will allow you to water properly without risking soil runoff.

1 lb loose coco fiber moss, used to create planter and hanging basket liners

1 lb. Bag Loose Coco Moss

  • 1 lb. of loose coco moss is enough to line two 14" diameter hanging baskets (typically these are 9" deep).
  • Best for planters with wire mesh or closely spaced bars.
  • If you are lining a metal planter with bars spaced far apart it may be easier to add chicken wire or even string fishing line around the basket to help keep the moss from falling out.
  • Loose coco moss can also be used on top of your planters to discourage weeds and retain moisture, but please keep at least one inch away from the crowns and stems of plants.
  • Use also to freshen up older molded liners that may have developed holes or thinned spots.

Window Hayrack Coco Fiber (coir) Liner for Wrought Iron Window Boxes

Molded Window Hayrack Liners and Cradle Planter Liners

  • These are molded to fit our Garden Artisans 24, 30, 36, 48, 55, and 72 inch long (length measured from left to right side) window hayracks specifically.
  • They are made of coco fiber with added latex to help with water retention.
  • Minimum of 10 mm thick.
  • Customers tell us they may not have to replace every year.
  • They will likely be suitable for other similarly sized hayracks, but the fit may be a bit different--you will want to check the front to back measurement (width) and the depth also.
  • It is better to have a liner that is slightly taller rather than too short.
  • They are not made for rectangular window boxes; they may perhaps be used if the dimensions are similar, but do not expect that they will fit exactly right. They are NOT completely rectangular--the sides and front are tapered to fit the hayracks and thus the bottom is smaller than the top opening.
  • We also carry "cradle planter" liners in 30, 36, and 44 inch length--these are shallower and trough shaped.

Round molded coco fiber (coir) liners are the easiest way to line a hanging basket

Molded Round Hanging Basket and Planter Liners

  • We carry molded basket and planter liners in a variety of sizes.
  • These are made of coco fiber with added latex to help with water retention.
  • Our liners are a minimum of 10 mm thick.
  • Customers tell us they may not need to be replaced every year.
  • Measure the diameter (across the center) of your basket and the depth, then match to the appropriate liner size.
  • Also compare the curve of your basket and see if it has a flat bottom--we have flat bottom liners in some sizes that may fit your planter or basket better.
  • It is better to have a liner slightly taller than too short.
  • We also carry sets of liners for 2-tier and 3-tier round planters, and wrought iron hanging baskets with or without liners, as well as replacement chains and large steel S-hooks for easier hanging.

These liners are of uniform thickness and density. They fit the planters they are intended for perfectly. I was particularly impressed that they are of sufficient depth. This is a very good product.

Compared to big box store versions of this item -- this one is a winner. Actually it is a winner without comparing. Thick and even. I assume it will hold up well. The ones I saw in stores were thin and bare in laces and looked like they would have a hard time holding soil. This is perfection!

Every year I do window boxes and I waste so much soil, and they get so heavy and are so messy by the end of the season. I used these this year and used about 1/3 the amount of soil. The boxers are so much lighter and manageable, and they’ve stayed so much cleaner through the season.
