Recommend using calipers to measure the length (gap between two halves + total length compressed). Will not fit GT40P heads though. It will work on the intake valve using a Ford 60s style (one piece) valve spring retainer. The later (2 piece) retainers are too large and won't fit into the tool. The tool is just too long to work for the exhaust valve.

Was impressed how close this tool measured compared to a vernier gauge, ~0.002".Used to ensure what my builder had my valve spring height set at, it was wrong.

So if you are looking at reviews on this, congratulations you are a man, a hell of a man even. This micrometer is just as accurate as any other, I did compare against a large store brand before proceeding, exact same, much cheaper. Happy valve seating.

These worked good for my project. I checked it for accuracy before using and they were spot on. Good spring height measuring tool to have in your toolbox . The value is great, I bought 2 .

Knowing that the accuracy might be off a little, just use a calibrated micrometer to measure the tool first. Overall, I'm happy with it!

For the price it did the job. It's not calibrated and the fit is a little sloppy. There was another review that said the scales was off, and just used calipers after distance was figured out. I did the same. Set the tool up on the valve and retainer, mark the spot on the scale with pencil, remove tool and reset to the mark, then measure with calipers. I measured in a few places just to verify because the tool rocks around a little. I'm not a machinist ot engine builder so it did what I needed.

I purchased two of these for my work. The first time I go to use it, it broke. I have the other one, but I'm disappointed in the product.
