I got the Grete Gotye fly fans for outdoor use, and they work great. You could use these at events like baby showers, birthday parties, and family cookouts. They come in a pack of six, and each fan already has a rechargeable battery inside (Photo 1). You also get six charging cables with them, USB-A to USB-C.They’re simple to set up. You just pull the fan up from the center, pop the blades on top, and switch it on (Photo 2). If the battery runs out, they also utilize regular AA batteries too. They stand about 9 inches tall and lock in place when open (Photo 3), but when you're done, they collapse so you can store them. There are small handles on the bottom, to easily carry them around (Photo 4). These fans ran for 8 hours even when I didn’t fully charge them, impressive. These fans work in three ways. First, using the reflective blades that refract light as they spin, causing a visual effect that appears unnatural to insects causing them to avoid the area. Second, the spinning blades generate a subtle airflow that disrupts the scent trails insects use to locate food. Third, fast spinning blades act as a physical barrier, keeping insects from flying close.

I had seen these at outdoor resort buffets in the past and always thought they would only be available through restaurant suppliers. Finally found them on Amazon and used them for outdoor picnic this last weekend. They kept all types of flying insects away from the food that was set out on the table. In the past we used picnic table tents which weren't always the right size. With these fans it didn't matter. A couple of them spread out across a large table worked perfectly. The best part about the fly fans is that you have three ways to power them. They come with rechargeable AA batteries that you can charge with the included USB-A to USB-C cable (one cable per fan is included). You can also use regular AA batteries in case you forgot to charge your batteries. Or, if you have a USB power source, you can hook the fans up directly to the cable. Since we usually use the same picnic table, I am working on some type of direct wired solution now with cables hidden underneath the table that can power these fans. When not in use, the fans center tower also collapsed into the outer base part, which makes storing these even easier. So as not to loose them, I keep the fan blades in a plastic bag until next time.No more sounds of "Shoo fly" at our outdoor food table setups.

These are very useful, although I think they are just one layer of protection, and you might want to use more things in addition imo. So these will keep flies off food directly below it...but they go so slow that they wont really prevent flies from even 6-12 inches away I doubt. So if you have a big spread outside...you would need a LOT of these to cover a big table. 4 just will not do it. You also cannot ofc eat off your plate with one of these going. So if you are in the northeast like me....where it gets quite hot + humid in summer...this will not be enough to prevent flies from getting on your food on your plate. (And depending on how much food you have on your table/area.) Thats why I do recommend getting these, but I consider them just 1 layer...and would also suggest looking into sprays, plugs, candles and other products that can also help keep flies away. As there are other ways to try to keep them from being around you at all. Whereas these are like a last resort at the most physical level. For people without many flies...these alone may be fine. But for the hot + humid northeast summers.....these alone may not solve the problem. But they are definitely useful. One other thing to note is that I thought I might be able to open the bottom and swtich out normal AA batteries in case I forgot to charge them up and wanted to use them...but the screws on the bottom dont seem to work with any screw head in my entire small screwdriver set. They feel sortof stripped and not like a normal screwdriver top. So I couldnt' open it up and most people ofc wont have a screwdriver handy. So that option is not as usable as I thought, but its better to have rechargeable batteries as the default anyway imo. And the battery likely holds a charge for a long time when not in use. You just dont have a way of knowing how much battery is left, and its not at all easy to open up the bottom to pop new ones in if you needed to. (its screwed in to prevent humidity apparently.)Bottomline: These are a fine set and do what I thought they would do. It would have been cool to be able to easily swap out batteries if needed but its not very easy to do so I wouldnt suggest using it that way. And while this can definitely keep flies away from whatever is directly under it....it cant really protect the plate you are eating off of unless you want to have your hands hit the spinner over and over, so you might want to also look into more layers of protection such as sprays, sound smitters, candles and the like. These are a very good base layer of protection for food you will have set out though, and I would recommend them as one layer of protection.

Since you get 6 of these, you can place some on your table and hang some as well over the table cause they have the little hook. And then they keep the air circulating for you. And it also keeps any bees or gnats away from your food when you're eating outside. Its cool that they're collapsible, so they're really easy to store and use whenever. These are just really cool and convenient little gadgets to have around for when you want to eat outside. And you definitely don't want to spray any bug spray or anything like that around food and you don't want to put stuff on your skin. So this is a great answer for that situation to keep the bugs away without any pesticides. The fan itself is sturdy, it collapses very easily and you can pull it up very easily. It wasn't hard to hang them up either.
