It's small, so not for prolific composters, but great for a small family environment. The only smelly bit is the liquid that is drained out of it after the first few days. It's pretty neutral after it starts to break down.

This is NOT a starter kit. a starter kit infers that it includes everything needed to start doing whatever activity it is selling. This kit does not have the enzymes you needs to actually make it work. Really disappointing.

Luckily, I had my mom available and she is a gardener. The kit does not come with everything to get started. You need the bacteria, pads and culture. Also, although it said Odor free, we were not comfortable having it in the kitchen so we placed it on the back patio which is where our plants are.I will say, we are not noticing any odor though. It does take time, from what I have been told, for it to compost. My mom has several larger composting bins that she uses for her garden so I have the benefit of her experience.I would say, if you have never done this before, do some reading and watching some videos to get familiar with the process and expectations.I gave this 3 stars, since for the price - it is basically a small garbage can with some modifications and did not come as a complete starter kit.

Looks cool and all, but when I got it, it has some complicated instructions thay I honestly don't understand. I just put compost in it but I don't know how to use it for what it's intended to be used for exactly. I only got thay far.

This compost bin is perfect for getting started in composting. It almost comes with everything you need. You do need to purchase compost starter. The plastic on this device is heavy duty and should not crack or bust. The lid clamps on shut with latches that stay secure. This keeps all the smells and odors in the bin. The bottom has a drain so you can catch the compost to use for fertilizer. I am really surprised at the quality and manufacturing of this compost bin! Great way to not waste food scraps.

I have been wanting to try composting and wanted to start out small to see how we would do. This looked perfect. Five gallons seemed like a lot, so I ordered it. The one thing it does not come with is the compost starter, so you'll need to order that as well. But once you get it set up and start adding your compostable waste, it's quite easy. The lid seals nicely and I can't smell anything if it's sealed. You do have to stir it around once and awhile, which I do when I add more scraps. There is a tap at the bottom so you can drain the liquid off to use as fertilizer. Except for not having the starter, this is great for beginniners.
