They are heavier than you are used to if you haven't played with them before. They take a beating but I worry about the coating and my cymbals. they are really cool though

I haven't bought a pair of 5A Ahead sticks in over 10 yrs. Because I didn't have to....simply put.You know even when they finally broke it was so weird. I have had these sticks for over 10 years and i cannot believe one just broke! It was totally unexpected ( tho I was playing live rock pretty heavy with my mates).I knew they would have to break eventually, but that pair of sticks saved me , oh idk over$1000 Im pretty sure. Now I am not positive of the quality or durability of the current pair...However i assure uou I will definitely write about it.... So I guess ask yourself do i feel lucky...?Well,...... Do ya.... Punk?

So right off the bat, these do not respond the same as wood sticks, which is not a negative, simply different. these are as different from wood as the acrylic light up drum stick toys are from wood. these are way more lighter in weight, yet the durability of these is un matched. for the price they are wonderful. now with that being said these like everything else in the world of drumming/percussion aren't for everyone. For me aside from simply getting used to them and learning to adjust my playing style to better use these they are a 10/10 will definitely buy again.

The feel and balance of the stick is quite interesting. I feel as though rimshots are easier with this stick, and the sticks come back faster. In the months I’ve owned it, playing rock about 5 hours a week, it still looks pretty undamaged, and I haven’t had to replace tips or covers yet. (Wooden sticks would start to chip and crack with similar use)It is worth noting that it sounds somewhat different than a comparable wooden stick of the same size and tip. The following is what I notice:Snare: A bit less of that low fundamentalToms: Less fundamental, more attack, quieter (Deader?)Ride: More definition and ping from bow (nylon tip probably)(your experience may vary though)

I seem to hit pretty hard, or maybe something in my technique puts undue stress on my sticks - any rate - I go through sticks like crazy in rehearsals. tried everything - wood, carbon fibre, and now these - for me the best of the bunch. These are aluminium sticks with a replaceable hardened plastic sheath and tip, and they simply don't break, though you will have to replace the plastic covers every now and again. - be careful when ordering the replacement covers, to get the right length as there a three different lengths available - as I understand these take the "medium" covers, but haven't actually had to replace them yet. The replacement covers are pretty cheap - about what you might pay for budget sticks, but will last you way longer!the blurb on the box warns that the sticks could bend if you hit cymbals side on, but mine have been just fine, even though I have caught the side of the crash pretty hard a few times - I think they're just covering themselves against every eventualitynow, playing - they do feel a little different from wooden sticks - the overall weight isn't so different, but its distributed differently, so the balance point will be different - although I actually prefer the weighting of these, so its worth trying them out. I was expecting that they might feel a bit "dead", but was pleasantly surprised to find they have a nice springy response - I like playing with these, and get plenty of dynamic control from them.If you read other reviews, you will have heard that the metal grips can be slippery. This is true, especially once you get a good sweat on - could be a problem, but you can use grip tape if you feel the need. I don't bother - It's not a huge problem for me, I bought these for practise sessions, and they are perfect for that - I will probably still use my carbowood sticks for gigs, though, just because they don't slip out of my hands so much.Overall - great sticks - no problems that I didn't know about beforehand, and will save me a bunch of cash in the long run.

I purchased these sticks back in January. I had already tried the tommy lee signature model, but i wanted something lighter. Much lighter. Anyway, they have a great rebound and they DO last much longer. The only thing I don't really like is the grip area. If you tend to sweat, they'll fall off your hand. So it's highly recommended to get some grip tape. All in all, these are the best drumsticks I've ever tried. They last very long and they can hit hard without much effort. Totally recommended.

These sticks were designed for heavy metal players who hit really hard, and use alot of power. If you're not the heavy hitting drummer, and you play not so hard e.g jazz, pop, funk...these are NOT for you! They are as heavy as oak 5b sticks, approximately. By the ways I recommend buying the Ahead drummers gloves, and grip tape. With the combination of both you can't go wrong, trust me. Try it out yourself. I use 'em and I have no problem what so ever. I hope you find this helpfull and have fun with your new Ahead sticks. Peace out.
