When it comes to wood, I think I still prefer my other countersink bits that also drill the pilot hole. The 1/4" bit in particular didn't impress, leaving a much more jagged outline if I wanted to stop short of the shoulder. Where I really plan to put these to use is any time I want a flush-fit screws in metal, even if the taper is a bit more steeply angled than screw heads. The bit I tested on steel held up better than expected - it wore the cutting edge down a tiny amount and chipped some paint, but didn't degrade performance as I moved from one hole to the next.

Works like a champ, does a great job of counter sinking holes in wood , aluminum, plastic and steel. They left a nice clean surface and cut the steel ("which is the reason I ordered them") clean and easy. Well worth the asking price.

I tested these countersink bits with hard wood and the holes were nice and round. All the bits are the same angle and given that the largest bit can also make the same hole as the smallest one, there's really no need for multiple sizes, but still good to have. I can't speak to how long they will remain sharp, but I would say they are good value for the money.

These countersinks are sharp and make nice clean angled holes. When drilling wood the debris is quite fine, leaving a smooth surface. These bits are a nice change from an old one that bounced around and took out larger chips of wood and left a ragged surface.I was able to get a good hole in a thin aluminum mounting bracket so I could mount it with a flat screw instead of double-sided tape.Having 5 sizes makes me feel like a king - I can use the right size instead of whatever I have on hand.I'm using the 3/8" to countersink extra deep so that I can hide the screw by filling the hole with a short length of dowel. An accurate hole is important so that there aren't any gaps between the dowel and the surrounding cabinet.Great addition to my kit.

I have quite a number of countersinks, but tend to use my favorite one my Dad left me. It still cuts smoothly, even though it is getting dull with age. What makes it my favorite is that it has five cutting flutes – so it runs perfectly true with no chatter. When I saw these 5-flute EMSTAR countersinks on Amazon, I ordered them right away. They are very sharp and just like I expected, the five flute design cuts smoothly with no chatter – just like my old standby. The silicone rubber organizer keeps them together and helps prevent the cutting edges from being damaged. The machining on these is not super smooth and polished, but that in no way affects their use. These are excellent countersink bits.

Not very pleased with this product. The bits clog quickly and thus cut slowly. Disappointed. edit: The bits do work well in soft wood, I discovered today. They aren't ideal for hard wood though. Worth the price, I suppose.
