The company burnished the handle with flame and coated it with varnish, which is nice if you want that. It is packaged with two wedges.

The handle matched the specs in the description - 1.25" x ... Well, I measured it at 15/16ths but that's close enough to 1". That was still too big for the eye of my antique sledge head but it was close enough to adjust in. Grain is good and everything seems very solid.The wooden wedge did not arrive intact. As the wedges usually are, they were taped to the top of the handle. They split into three smaller wedges at some point. But the wedge usually splits as you put it into the head anyway so that didn't bother me. (The smaller steel wedge of course was fine.)I will note that the handle came with one of those staples in the butt end that hardware stores use to hang handles on a rack. The staple made the handle just slightly too long for the box it was shipped in and tore part of the end out of the box. Didn't hurt the handle in the slightest and the rest of my shipment was too big to fall out but we consumers really don't need that staple.

Wedge slots are not cut straight!! And i reseived broken wedges!!!
