I have an old automatic gate controlled by a Siemens Logo! logic controller that periodically misbehaves with random symptoms. The Logo! was being powered by the same maintained 12V battery that powers the gate motors, that way the gate still operates if mains power fails, until the battery discharges. After some research, I discovered that the Logo! will run on 12V but is designed to run on 24V, and that they don't like unstable supply voltage. So, I suspected that when the battery charge is a little low on the maintainer cycle, and the gate motor runs, the supply to the Logo is fluctuating enough to cause random behavior.I installed the 24V Logo Power Supply so now the Logo! has a stable reliable supply. I also added a 110V latching relay to switch 12V battery power to the Logo! to maintain gate operation if mains power fails. So far, the gate is working perfectly. This is how the system should have been designed from the get go!
