I purchased this 7" monitor to use with my Sony a7iv. I was previously using a 5" monitor. It really is surprising how much bigger a 7" monitor is. It is a little cumbersome when using the camera hand held but it is really great when you have the camera on a tripod. The larger screen makes it a lot easier to nail focus and composition. I recently paired the monitor with a wireless transmitter and found that the size is perfect for a director's monitor. Overall the monitor has a sharp picture, good brightness, and all the features you need for videography including my favorite tool: false color. This is a great monitor for the price you pay.

Full disclosure; I am primarily using this for stills, and tested it as such. I plan on using it for video once my video rig is complete, but that will still be limited in comparison to how much use this screen gets for stills. If you are still confused, I am a wildlife photographer, and needed a screen for focus assist in low-light conditions when I am sitting hidden in the bushes photographing Owls. I find a screen like this works far better than any cell phone app.Now that that’s all out of the way, on to the screen itself. I am thoroughly impressed with how much you get with this screen. The display part is on par with the better half of other similar products in the $2-400 range. Where this screen stands out is the boatload of built in features, some of which are only found in higher-end monitors. Twin hot-swappable Sony NP-F battery ports that can be used to run other accessories (purchased separately), 3 hard mount points, built in speakers, a full suite of assist features, USB for importing LUT files, HDMI in and out, and an SDI loop. The display itself is exceptionally sharp with no flicker and good out of the box color accuracy. I do not have any test equipment, so the best I can do here is trust my eyes when comparing to my factory calibrated midrange ASUS Pro-art 4k monitor. In that regard, I would say it’s 95% there. At the present time I am only using this for stills, and I did not get to take advantage of all of the built in functions. I did run through every single menu to make sure everything actually worked, and it sure did. Menus are accessed by swiping down for the main functions, volume and backlight controls on the sides, and swipe right for additional display options. For stills, I mainly used the focus peaking and histogram options. The live histogram is more than you get from any Sony DSLM currently on the market, and I found it very helpful when taking photos of Owls in low light during constantly changing lighting conditions. If you have a newer Sony with touch functions, you will be able to essentially use every camera function right from the screen with no lag, and without the added battery draw of transmitting Bluetooth or WiFi from your camera. If you mount your camera to an electronic gimbal, you can stay in your hide, and operate the camera 100% remotely using this screen and an app for your phone to control the gimbal’s pan/tilt. Want to get that full-frame shot of a Belted Kingfisher diving for his/her lunch? This sort of rig will help, and a screen such as this will be essential. In the box along with the screen you get a short HDMI to Micro-HDMI cable, an 8GB USB flash drive containing a manual and some other instructions, a junky little screen mount, a small LANC cable and a AC/DC power adapter. With twin NP-F970 batteries (not included), and a relatively low backlight setting of 9, you will see battery life upwards of 12 hours.Physically, the screen appears to be very well made. The chassis is all plastic with clean seams, gloss screen, and good apparent internal reinforcement. There is no chassis flex when the screen is mounted to any of the three hard points. My only complaint is the junky screen mount that is included. I would like to have seen a screen hood included instead of the useless screen mount, but I suppose the mount would prove to be more immediately useful for anybody using this as for its intended purposes [as a video monitor]. Despite the useless screen mount, I am still giving this a solid 5 stars. You really get a lot of bang for your buck here.As a side note, I also found use for this screen for PC gaming. In my case, I am using it as a secondary panel for Flight Simulator. I primarily use it for the ATC menu to free up my main display for the virtual cockpit.

I use this every day in my home (youtube) studio environment and I'm not sure how I ever got along without it. The larger 7" screen is much easier for me to see than the little flip-out on my camera, and having the ability to load my luts onto it and see a better representation of my final video (after editing in post) is a real game changer for me. I'm not even using this to it's full potential yet as I am fairly new to many of the concepts of histogram and false color and whatnot but I needed something like this to learn on and I love this thing!

It can be a bit confusing at first trying to figure out how to use all the functions, but once you get the hang of it the monitor is a great buy. Would recommend to any Sony shooters as it has the ability to control the camera from the touch screen.
