These inexpensive, metric-sized drill bits seem very suitable for drilling small holes in hard substances—ceramic flower pots, in my case. The 8mm bits have flutes, the 12mm have blind holes to assist removing dust. Included is a hex-shank drill bit with a spear tip of carborundum, possibly to start holes in ceramic tiles. Mine aren't beautiful, but they work very well.

I used this to drill holes through thin glass on an aquarium lid for the air line hoses.Water and a bench drill with a soft backing to prevent the glass from fracturing is all it takes.I don't have the skill to do this freehand so can't comment on how it drills with a hand drill. A drill press makes things easy and prevents movement so that would always be my go to if possible.Price is great for what you get.

I THINK these perform as they should, I suspect my difficulties are with lack of experience with drilling glass or ceramic with this kind of bit. The challenge for me is that you (according to docs) are supposed to start with the bit at 45* and dig a small crescent that the bit can lean on as you then square up and keep drilling straight. It takes some practice to minimize the crescent and quickly move into the right position before you cause more damage and scarring outside the hole you want. There are a lot of these kind of bits on the market so I assume that one masters this with experience.
