I have used a for the past five years and find it a reliable and very effective appliance. I wanted something similar for another window but decided to economize this time. For purposes of this review, I will use the Holmes fan as a comparison. The first thing I noticed is the relatively light weight of this Beyond Breeze fan. To avoid the attentions of my HOA, I need to lift a fan into place in a window each time it is needed and hide it the rest of the time. Though it feels cheaply constructed, the lightness of this Beyond Breeze is one point in its favor. The other would be the relatively low cost. After that, things get a bit more problematic and it suffers in comparison in terms of features compared to more capable fans such as the Holmes. The description above emphasizes "Manually Reversible...simple manual reverse...switch between two modes...versatile feature." This is deliberately misleading to the point of being fraudulent. There is no switch (noun as opposed to verb) involved. If you want to change from intake to exhaust, guess what?...you turn the entire fan around. Clever, huh? This fan has two speeds, only. It runs relatively quietly but that is an indication of the low volume of air it is able to move, even at its highest setting. Both of the nine-inch blades are operated by the one (on/off, two speed) switch. Similar to the rest of the fan, the switch does not give an impression of sturdiness. It rather flops from one setting to the next. There is no thermostat control. For comparison: The Holmes fan has three speeds, each of the eight-inch blades is independently controlled for speed and direction (intake/exhaust) by actual individual switches and there is one combined thermostat control. Most importantly, though similar in size there is a significant difference in the volume of air each fan is capable of moving. I won't quote exact numbers because that is subject to experimental variables. Using a handheld anemometer, I can say that despite the blades being smaller in diameter, the Holmes (with its smaller diameter blades) moves approximately two and one-half times as much air volume (measured in CFM--cubic feet per minute) than the Beyond Breeze.Bottom line: This Beyond Breeze fan is half the price of the Holmes. For that, you are giving up considerable convenience, functionality, durability and performance. It feels cheap. You get what you pay for.

This is a light and compact window fan. It's smaller than some similar units I've used. The fans are unidirectional. You can't switch between inlet or exhaust mode as you can with some similar units but it's easy to flip the fan around to get the same result. This also comes with two detachable feet. You don’t really need to use them if you are going to sandwich the fan in a box window, as I do, but it’s nice to have a choice.I also like the fact that the fan has detachable grills on the inlet side. We get a lot of traffic around here and the inlet grilles can get pretty grody after a while so the option to remove and soak them will probably make for a longer life.In use the fan is pretty quiet on the low setting. The high setting is quite a bit noisier but if it’s warm enough to need to use that, noise will probably be the least of your concerns.I live near the Southern California coastline. It can get pretty cool in winter, especially at night but May through, often, October we have window fans running almost 24/7. This will be a useful addition to the cooling kit.

So this fan isn't bad, as budget fans go, but it has some issues. First, the whole thing is pretty flimsy. That makes it easy to move around, but it is not very durable. Because it is flimsy, it is easy to pop the side panels loose completely. They are only held by pressure from the two halves of the shell, which flexes and bends easily. Putting them back requires taking the entire fan apart.Once you get it in the window and expanded, you will discover that you must install the fan either facing in or out. There is no reverse option, just take the fan out and turn it around. It also has these screens that are supposed to be held by plastic rings, but they fall out at the slightest bump. The fan itself works well to move air, and we are using it as an exhaust fan in our 3d printer room.

I have this set up in the kitchen when I need a little extra airflow. It works quite well, and definitely made circulating air in the house easy. It has two speeds, and I mainly just used the lower speed. The higher speed I found was pretty intense (and loud) so I opted not to utilize that. It also comes with two little feet you can throw on the bottom so you can set it on the counter, which I thought was pretty cool. The sides expand to fit into the window well, and contract back into the fan when finished. Make sure you get a REAL good fit in there, I had it in a bit loose and the wind blew the fan right onto the floor (it survived!). Speaking of quality, I wouldn't say this is SUPER solid. It did survive a drop to the floor, which is great, but you can see the plastic isn't extremely heavy duty or anything like that. Still worked well, and should be just fine for my needs!
