Works very good. Removes excess to size the dowels to the right diameter.

It kind of works, a little better if you use a drill instead of a hammer. I hope this could be sharpened but the geometry may be destroyed.

A dowl plate is a simple tool and therefore, shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. This one is reasonably priced. It is accurately sized holes then the plate is surface ground so that it works well. A good choice.

This a great dowel and peg making tool that should be in everyone’s toolbox. It has a lot of incremental holes that’s helpful when making thinner dowels from fatter ones. I use it to ensure store bought dowels are the proper size since they rarely are. It works best on straight grained softwoods and can leave ragged sides on featured grained wood like red oak and walnut. But the holes are accurate and it does the job I bought it for.

Been using this to reduce the size of dowels as well as turning scrap wood into dowels to patch holes in projects that I have been working on.
