I wanted a motor speed controller for ages because one tool in particular runs faster than I'd like most most of my uses. That's why I was really excited to give this a whirl.First, I was surprised to see that the output receptacle is a universal type, much like you see on travel adapters, so it will accept just about any plug. Neat. I tried the controller on a bench grinder with a 3 prong plug then a buffing wheel and a blower motor which both have 2 prong plugs. It worked great. Next in line was the tool I was really wanting this for.Guess what? Its standard 3 prong plug will not fit in the controller's universal receptacle. No amount of wiggling and gentle tweaking of the prongs help. In order to make it useable with this tool, I use a short, stout extension cord between the controller and the tool. It's still disappointing, and the reason for deducting a star.

A well-made and inexpensive motor speed control. It can be used for many applications where you need to control the sped precisely. It has a digital readout. It is easy to use is solid state functioning without vibration or noise.

This is just what I needed to be able to control the rotation speed of my ultrasonic record cleaning machine. By default, it rotates the record too fast but using this controller, I can slow it down to exactly where I think that it needs to be. Easy to use and good quality.

So far, I've tried this on a box fan and a grinder. It makes the fan motor a hum (on the two motors I tried). It isn't overly loud, but it is there. The dial seems well-made. I could dial the fan speed up and down very precisely. I could get it going slower than a ceiling fan. This is handy for the garage.

I haven't found any issues with this plug-in controller, and it has replaced a more powerful one that i have been using for a few years. My old one, although it still works fine, is much more powerful and will run up to 4,000 watts, if needed. However, my usage was for a low wattage, medium-sized fan that i install in my high cabin ceiling and use it for directing heat throughout the building, instead of wasting the warmth up there. So my old one was really overkill for my needs, and i found it difficult to get the slow speed that i really needed, as i didn't want a high speed swirl, just a steady quiet movement of air. So when i plugged this one in, it worked exactly as i needed. It lowered the wattage of the motor, and gives me much more control of the slow speed. I probably use around 100 watts now, with an rpm of 2,000. This is exactly what i needed, and at a low price. I can now re-use the old one on a more powerful motor.
