Installed on a 2008 Hummer H3 i5. Before install engine temperature gauge wouldn't work and dash said AC off (sporadically). After install the problem went away. A little while later problem came back around. 2nd time turned out to be the thermostat w 139k miles on it not allowing the motor to reach operating temp, presented the same way as the coolant sensor. Once the thermostat was replaced, all good.Install is pretty straight forward. Sensor is located on passenger side, near the firewall on the lower portion of the motor in a recessed spot. Unplug battery, remove radiator cap, unplug sensor, cut the sensor wire at the base of the sensor, attach socket (15mm), remove sensor, plug hole w finger or let it drain (will lose a little bit if coolant, put something to catch the coolant under vehicle, it is toxic to people and animals if consumed), hand tighten new sensor into place, finish tighten with sensor socket or wrench (you can cut a wrench down to fit in space between sensor and firewall), reconnect plug. Add lost coolant to radiator, reconnect battery, startup and turn on heater, once operating temp reached add additional coolant if necessary, reinstall radiator cap.If ac off is still displayed, have the code cleared. If it comes back it might be the thermostat.FYI if looking for a 15mm sensor socket for the coolant sensor, Ebay has them from the UK as a sensor socket for Fords.

Worked like a charm, The heat-shielding on this one was better than what came with my truck. A non-working temp gauge means one of two things; either a failing temp sensor, or a failing thermostat. If you've replaced the thermostat and your gauge still isn't working, change the sensor. Here's are a couple of helpful protips to install:This sensor is located on the passenger side rear of the engine up against the firewall. Pry the harness up and out of the block. Using a small flathead screwdriver, push the tab on the harness in, and remove the clip so you can unplug the harness.Find or buy a cheap 5/8" deep well socket. Take a rotary cuttoff wheel tool and cut a 1/4" wide slit down the side of the socket that is about a little over an inch long. Do not leave any overly sharp edges, follow up with some rough sand paper if you must. Last thing you want to do is cut your new sensor wire.Using a combination of a long 3/8" extension and ratchet, slide the cut 5/8" socket over the sensor plug and allow the wire to hang out of the side of the cut you made on it. You should be able to break the sensor loose with the socket and remove it.Have a large clean bowl underneath the vehicle as you will leak some antifreeze. Either have the new sensor ready to go in when you remove the old one, or replace the coolant you lost or reuse it (I pour it though an old t-shirt to make sure no frame rust or sediment makes its way back into the cooling system).Tighten the new sensor snug but do not overtighten.Plug in new sensor and replace retaining clip.Start engine, and go for a drive to test.
