The bowls are larger than I already have. They are unfinished so you can leave them, paint or coat with varnish. The fabric is nice, there is plenty of filler. Thread is not like the Japanese thread I have but it will work. The "pens" are indeed similar to what are called refills in the US but waste not pens overseas, they work well and fit the template slots easily - which they would probably not do if in a "pen". The templates are made of very thick acrylic and are 12 cm square, so larger than the area to be stitched and you cannot get the design shown in the picture in those dimensions. Still, I'm ok with that. The con to me is they never say draw a circle around the design and give no dimensions however, after stitching is completed and the design sponged with water, the next step is to cut round the dotted circle. No dimensions or template given. Will have to use scrap fabric to try to figure that one out. All in all I am more pleased than not with the kit even if they will be larger than the Japanese one I bought.
