I normally use the Simpson Strong-Tie fasteners and ordered these to compare. Right off the bat, you can get the name brand Simpson ones locally for around $3 (at least where I live), and these come out to about $4 a piece. Secondly, every stringer fastener like this one that I've used previously takes a #9 nail. This brand takes a #10, which isn't necessarily a deal breaker but I was a little surprised at the difference. These worked fine for the steps I built for my shed, but if I was planning on doing more structural based work, I'd probably just use Simpson brand I normally use.

Construction fasteners like this should provide usage guidelines and load tables so you know the connector will work in your application. I included a screenshot of the similar Simpson Strong-Tie part showing the fastener schedule and load tables. Not being available for this part you have no idea what the allowable use is. The fastener holes in this part are for a #10 fastener. The similar Simpson part requires a #9 fastener. I included a picture of a #9 screw in a Simpson connector and in this connector. You can see the screw is loose in this connector. If you are mixing this fastener with other Simpson or M-Tek fasteners on your job, you will need to make sure you use the right fastener for the part. The price for this part with unknown specs (load tables, allowed usage, etc.) is currently a little over $4 per connector. The Simpson Strong-Tie part (LSCZ) at Home Depot is only $2.57. The pictures in the Amazon listing that show a stair stringer connector in use on a deck are NOT THIS ITEM! They are the Simpson Strong-Tie LSCZ connector!. Finally, there are no markings on the part. All other brackets I have used have at least the manufacturer and part number stamped on the connector. I don’t know if this could be an issue for an inspector, it’s just something I noticed. In summary, a larger fastener is needed, no specs are available, it is more expensive that the code approved Simpson part. They can’t even show this part in use on a deck and have to resort to showing a competitor part. My recommendation is to buy that competitor part.

These are thinner than your typical hardware store quality. They get the job done but im not sure about their durability.

Super easy to bend and the perfect length for standard stair stringers. The thickness is perfect as well so they aren't too offset from the mating surface.
