I wore this rain poncho in Spain on the Camino de Santiago. It was perfect for keeping my large hiking backpack and me dry. It has a number of features that I really enjoyed: It has actual sleeves so it's not open on the sides letting in rain on a windy day. I also like that the backpack part can be minimized for when I wasn't wearing my pack. Another huge plus was the drawstring around the face and the little optional loop between the legs making for a much drier walk on windy days (no open flapping in the wind parts unless you want/need that). I used this poncho a lot and liked it so much that I just ordered another one for another family member for another outdoor hike this summer. The versality and options to leave it open or closed tight make for a very nice lightweight poncho.

My teo sons and I all wore these ponchos on a 12 miles hike where it rained most of the day. VERY happy to say we all stayed dry! I’ve worn rain jackets when backpacking but the rain just funnels between the pack and my back, inevitably getting me wet. Problem solved! I shared a link to our scout troop to get these as well.

My son regularly goes on 10 to 70 mile hikes and loves this poncho. He is 6'2" tall and it comes to his knees while covering a full multi-day overnight pack. He likes that it is roomy and therefore has a lot of air circulation so that he doesn't get sweaty. He used it for 2 years before he tore a hole in it which is good considering that he is 16 and is rough on his hiking gear.

Never going to make it to the fashion show runway with this one, but it looks like it'll work. Haven't used it yet, but tried it on with a backpack, this think is HUGE. If I get caught on the trail I could rig it up as a quick shelter.

Some things to know: the description says the back has buttons for when you are not using it with the backpack, but it’s actually a zipper, and it does not seem very sturdy and it seems it will not last very long; the front zipper only loosens the neck, but it has an apron on the inside, so you don’t actually open the neck up as you would in thinking about having a zipper jacket; the color purple is fabulous; the material does not feel very sturdy so that might be a trial; if I am using it correctly, it has a loop and a toggle at the bottom, so if you connect those, it makes the poncho attach front and back at the bottom so it doesn’t blow away and that seems like a great idea!Unfortunately the bill on the hood came bent so much that despite many efforts, it can’t be straightened. It’s bent off-center so it doesn’t sit right. It will have to be returned 😕

I love this poncho for my hiking adventures. This is the second one I bought just in case my first one gets damaged. Four of my hiking friends have also bought one for themselves.

So far I've only had a chance to walk around my yard in a downpour without a pack but I stayed nice and dry. I'm hoping to have a real test in the near future. The seams look good and the tape is applied evenly so I don't expect any leaks. Depending on how this one performs I'd like to get a pair for my kids (they walk home from school). I do like the loop/toggle on the bottom edge so you can sure the poncho bottom between your legs to keep it from flapping. I've got an old pair of Frog Toggs rain pants I may convert to chaps. The pair of these will make a nice cool weather rain gear ensemble. For the "not so good" I'd have to say I'm concerned about the back panel zipper arrangement. So far it didn't leak but without a pack the back panel kind of forms a pocket loosely covered with a storm flap. There's still a pretty big gap on one side. It looks like water can/will run down the back and into this pocket, creating a "bucket" dangling inside the poncho. There's a loop and toggle under the storm flap that I assume are there to help hold this material up to prevent this. They appear to only be marginally effective. I'm also not a fan of the visor. The foam gets mangled when you roll the poncho and stuff it back into the storage bag. It fits OK if you cinch down the face opening and adjust the hood. However, if you want to leave the opening loose for ventilation it doesn't fit well. A brimmed cap or other headgear is recommended for wear under the hood.
