Sharpens to a fine point. I had an issue with the first unit I received (the top didn't lock into place for which sized point you want) and their support fixed the problem extremely quick. So impressed that we got 2 more and another art student also bought one based off of using mine in a class. Great product.

Wish I would have seen this a long time ago. Works like a charm and saves a lot of "xacto" blades.

Delivered quickly. Is very powerful and creates a beautiful point. It says it does hard pastal pencils but it even sharpened my soft pastal ones. Very pleased.

I have just tested this sharpener upon receiving, and I am thoroughly impressed. I used the cheapest pencils I have which I gave up on, due to them constantly breaking no matter what sharpener I tried using. I also added a Derwent pastel pencil, because it had the same issue. I never expected the sharpener to work on soft charcoal and pastel, but it absolutely did! I should say that in the past I was very impressed with a Derwent mechanical sharpener that also provides a very long tip to a pencil. I only started looking for a new one because my faithful Derwent started showing signs of "getting old" and not bringing good results anymore. I know I can use graphite to re-sharpen the blades of it, but it was an excuse to check what's out there, which is how I stumbled on this electric sharpener. And wow. Even my Derwent could not handle the very soft pencils, I would end up using a manual pastel sharpener and even that barely worked. I've never seen such a long tip even as an option for charcoal and pastel! I'm now looking forward to trying it out on my Prismacolors, which, as all of us pencil nerds know, has an ongoing issue of continuous breakage.Notes about the usage itself: it is very simple and convenient. The two types of tip modes and the way you combine them allow for some versatility in the style of the tip. The basic instructions are as the manual says: sharpen twice using both modes to get a long as well as sharp tip, or just one of the modes as suits you. It's super easy. The automatic stop does work. The only thing you need to pay attention to is that when you rotate the top, sometimes it feels like it can't move anymore but actually it can. So if for some reason you push the pencil and it doesn't start sharpening, it means you need to adjust the mode just slightly more until you're in the correct spot, and then you're good to go.Overall, despite the cost it is a well worth investment, considering how much additional usage I can get from my pencils. I'm sorry now that I didn't get this sharpener sooner, because so many of my pencils have been wasted on failing attempts to sharpen them....the money I could've saved on buying new ones would've well justify the price of this fancy sharpener.

Pencil sharpener purchased months ago...This sharpener provides an alternative to using razor or x-acto blades to sharpen and expose your graphite or other medium. I highly recommend for beginners and pros-you will love it! It shaves each pencil to a solid, strong and significantly long point, exposing smooth graphite and wood casing...this does not split the wood or create splintering. There’s a clear difference between the two point choices. Both options expose much more graphite than your standard sharpeners. The Shorter option provides a Sharper point but The longer option provides significantly more exposed graphite. I am still impressed with how quick and simple it is to switch between the two choices. Either length worked great and continue to impress me, cleanly sharpening a variety of artist-grade graphite pencils (ranging from 3H-8B)While I believe this sharpener is fabulous for artist-grade materials Note: while this sharpener may work great with all different kinds and quality of pencils please note my review only covers the sharpening quality for the specific brands listed below.I recommend this sharpener for the specific brands stated below.1. Staedtler Lumograph (+Mars Black)2. Fabre Castel 90003. Koh-I-Noor Progresso Graphite Woodless Pencils

I'm revising my review.First off, let me say this review is about Gazelltek and how they stand behind their products. If you read my prior review (and I hope you didn't), I left a scathing review of the "electric" pencil sharpener. Here's the deal...I bought one of these for my sketching and it worked great. Then I started an art course that used charcoal pencils. I bought another one when I was visiting the grandkids in Charlotte. When I tried using it -- DISASTER! It chewed up my charcoal pencils (which ain't cheap!), broke the points, it was a NIGHTMARE! So I wrote a scathing review ... and ... bought a sharpener from Staples. (It wasn't the best but was recommended by the art course and, at least, didn't destroy my pencils.A week or so after I wrote the review, Gazelltek emailed me and offered to refund the money I paid for the sharpener or send me a new one. I told them ... "Forget it." Not that I'm rich but I didn't need their refund and I wanted to remember NEVER to use their sharpener with my charcoal pencils. But ... they persisted. They offered to send me both a new electric ... and ... a manual sharpener. So I relented and they arrived today. When I opened the manual sharpener I though, "Holy crap ... it's plastic." I didn't even want to fool with it. I was reach to reseal the package and have UPS pick it up.Then, my wife tried the manual sharpener and said, "This is fantastic!" When she showed me the pencil point I was amazed. So I said, "Well, the test is the charcoal pencil."So I went out into my studio and grabbed one of them. I put it through the manual sharpener and was absolutely blown away with how easy it was to get a great point.I was still afraid to use the electric sharpener based on my prior experience. So ... I figured I needed to try it. To Gazell's point, they said the sharpener could have been defective. (When I put the pencil into the sharpener, the selector switch at the top spun around. When I sharpened the pencil it came out perfect (the image with the electric sharpener in the background).So...I have to retract my original 1 star review and replace it with this one.Not only does Gazelltek make great sharpeners, they stand behind their products 100%.Gazelltek has redefined pencil sharpeners -- kudos to them!Thank you for being patient with me. (I bought two more manual sharpeners and will pay for the manual they sent me.)If you need a pencil sharpener - especially for your artwork - these are the ones to buy - period ... end of story!
