I’ve been using this particular brand and model of pencil sharpener for well over a decade now. I only bought a new one to use at my office so I didn’t have to carry it back and forth. It gets my pencils to the finest point without breaking the graphite. It’s easy to empty the shaving from the canister. The suction cup can be a tad finicky, but it works well when it’s on a truly flat surface. The blades on my original one have held up well over the years and still work as they should.

Perfect for desk top use.The sharpener is great and produces tips comparable to more expensive and bigger ones.The edge has held up for several years and does a great job with no breakages even on soft color pencils.Suction works on surfaces that are smooth (no wooden desk top for this one) . But once stuck, it does stay in place quite well.One has to hold the pencil to prevent it from spinning while sharpening and this can be tricky if your hands are wet or if the pencil is round or too smooth.This unit needs to be vacuum attached and is hard to use if you don't have access to a smooth rigid surface. If you are using one hand to hold down the unit then you don't have a way to hold the pencil from spinning.Compared to the rest of the unit, the shavings collector is a bit flimsy and can easily break.

I prefer old-fashioned wooden pencils ice mechanical, but I’m cheap, so I always used those $1 hand sharpeners you get in the back-to-school sales. But those are terrible, and never work, so I started looking at other options. Electric sharpeners sounded appealing, but every single model had complaints of them dying soon after they were bought, so I started looking at manual crank sharpeners, remembering how nice they were to use in elementary school. I decided to try this model (remember, i’m cheap), but I must say i’m extremely pleased with this purchase. The sharpening mechanism is great, and consistently sharpened the pencils to a nice long point. The attached picture shows a number of pencils I cranked through while I was waiting for some cookies to finish in the oven.I’m giving it 5 stars based on my satisfaction with the performance versus it’s very affordable price. I will say that the cover feels cheap and is guaranteed to shatter if you drop it. Also, the suction base worked very well on a smooth counter during use, but I wouldn’t count on it staying attached for long periods of time. (I don’t expect any using this method to do that). If you expect young children to use it, i’d look for something sturdier, and this one feels like you have to be a bit gentle with it. But for an adult who isn’t rough with stuff, it is decent enough, with very nice end result.

Suction mount is a bit fiddly but works. You need to gently hold the spencil in to sharpen it but am amazed how sharp a point it makes.Might have been better going for a clamp mount but it works.Was also thinking of going for an auto feed one but this works fine.I would suggest only giving it a couple of turns of the handle and checking how sharp it is, as it sharpens quickly and to a super sharp point.Doesn't seem to be the strongest construction so will see how it holds up but it's so much better than the cheap hand held things that always seem to break the point off for me.

Bought this for my daughter as we needed to sharpen 40 pencils for her class and I really didn't feel like using a little hand one. I also didn't expect much from this given some of the reviews.I found it attached firmly to our kitchen counter and it sharpened up 40 Ticonderogas beautifully in about five minutes. It's been ages since I've used one of these crank style sharpeners so I don't know if they all let up pressure once the pencil has been sharpened, but I was really pleased with it, especially for the price. Not being able to choose a colour is a bit weird, but I guess it's not as if it really matters.

I am a light user of pencils; I do not need them particularly sharp. This pencil sharpener sharpens well, but it creates a long point on your pencils; do not plan to sharpen the same pencil with both a regular, cheapo sharpener AND this sharpener. Many reviews complain about the vacuum mount. On a flat particle-board desk, the vacuum mount works OK. It has enough suction to work, but I would not recommend this to a classroom because it is not sturdy enough. The plastic container is relatively fragile (can't drop it on a hard floor) and it snaps to the base to intricately to be repaired if broken. I am careful to take good care of the vacuum mount, and it only works tolerably -- so if you had thousands of kids buffeting it back and forth, the seal would quickly give out. The helical cutter works very well and never gets dull, so expect to sharpen around 10,000 pencils before getting problems. What I found most admirable was that it could sharpen some pencils that were a little wider than normal, that were unusable to me before I got this! It still latches on to the point of my normal-sized pencils well, though. It creates a smooth point -- perfect for speedy note-taking -- and is constructed, if not durably, then safely: there are no sharp edges (when fully assembled, that is) that I could bump in the middle of the night. The crank turns as if greased both when sharpening a pencil and when not!Overall, if you are a homeschooler looking for a good pencil sharpener, this is the sharpener for you.Pros: Sharpens easily, does not get dull, removable vacuum mount for portabilityCons: Not very durableEDIT: Found out why the vacuum mount fails -- if it's not perfectly clean, it has no suction power. Wipe with a damp cloth, and the seal returns.
