This is a decent metal compass. It doesn't open. It's fixed shut. The top cover might be plastic or glass, not sure, but part of the glue resin isn't well sealed so you can see air bubbles along the edge of the rim. The chain is made of metal but it came broken. The compass is easy to read and points to North but it takes FOREVER to get there, so I wouldn't try to use it as an actual compass. It comes in a nice looking wooden box. For the cost, this is an ok compass that would work well for costumes or reenactments.

I ordered this for my Son, because when I was younger my mother gave one very similar to this to me. This compass is absolutely fantastic! It is extremely well crafted and the brass inlay on the wood box is beautiful. It spins freely and is very accurate and easily read. It is a very nice piece to have siting on the desk or to actually use. Considering the fine craftsmanship, it is a great buy and worth 3x the cost.

My son absolutely adores this. I ordered it for him from my mother who has dementia. The compass is absolutely beautiful.T he functionality is great, I love how it stays pointing to God and is a reminder for my son that he's never alone. The build quality is flawless, this should be two or three times the actual price!!

I got this for my grandson for Christmas. He loves these type of things and this was perfect! I did think it would be slightly bigger, but its not bad. It looks great and the inscription looked good, however the brass plate that the inscription is on looked very tarnished. It might be to give it a rustic look, idk, but I was a bit disappointed in that. He seemed to like it though and that's all the counts.

This is an engraved compass for my grandson. It has a really nice quote regarding them finding their path and me giving them support. The compass is really made well. I believe this is something my grandson will keep forever. The glass was chipped and not even attached w/no way to fix. The direction pointer was also loose in the box. The plate w/words in the box was tarnished and coroded. I don't have one good thing to say about this Christmas present for my grandson that was supposed to be s keepsake. This should be zero stars!
