  • Designed in 1985 by Michael Graves; crafted with an 18/10 stainless-steel body
  • Handle and whistle in durable PA resin; choose from blue or ivory handles
  • Wider base lets water boil more quickly, making it a favorite for busy, modern-day users
  • Measures 8-1/2 inches in diameter and 9 inches high; hand wash only; both whistling bird and lid can be replaced

Designed by architect Michael Graves in 1985, this kettle is the first of a group of products designed in the 80's and 90's by the architect. This was the first group of products by an American designer to be included in the Alessi catalog. It opened the way for the playful design style that subsequently characterized the 90's, and thanks to an inspired mix of post-modern and pop idioms, it has become one of the internationally recognized icons of the 80's. Still the best seller since its introduction, the kettle is actually the product that has sold the greatest number of units in the history of the company. Body is in 18/10 stainless steel with handle and whistling bird in PA. Both whistling bird and lid can be replaced. Magnetic steel bottom suitable for induction cooking

This is my third Alessi kettle by Graves over my lifetime. I love the style and the sweet whistle when the water has boiled. Top quality.

A thing of beauty truly is a joy forever! You won’t be disappointed with the way this tea kettle looks. It boils an adequate amount of water per use. If you are looking to boil more than 24 ounces of water at a time, however, I would recommend a larger kettle.Read the directions on the proper care of this kettle before using it for the first time.It is such a joy to look at that, not only don’t I mind taking a little extra care with it, I want to!

It's a bit of a splurge but significantly lower price here compared to in the stores. I LOVE this tea kettle. Looks darling in the kitchen, whistles, and oh yeah, it makes tea!

Love it. Don't fill it to the tippy top unless you want the whistle to be muffled.

Little disappointed in the whistle of the bird, not quite as loud as I had hoped but over all I love the kettle and have been wanting one for years.

I’ve had my eye on this tea kettle for quite some time. It was finally time we got a new kettle and I splurged on this. For a pricey luxury tea kettle, I expected elegance, quality, and functionality. Sad to say elegance is just about its only quality.First of all, the whistle is quiet which I was happy that it wasn’t too loud; however you have to remove the plastic whistle in order to pour from the spout. Which is inconvenient. The whistle itself feels like cheap plastic and has an aluminum type spring that holds it in place on the spout. The first few times I boiled water I smelled a plastic-like burning smell and I reached out to the company to inquire about the quality of plastic used on the whistle. They basically said it was rated for heat and just to follow instructions. No further details were provided as to the type of plastic they used.I felt like this was not sufficient. Additionally, the kettle itself started rusting on the lid and the inside bottom after the second us. I used only RO water inside for boiling. The worst part of this kettle is that it has burned my hand twice now from steam. Removing the whistle leaves quite a large opening in the spout and HOT steam comes out of the spout when you remove the whistle after boiling and before pouring into a mug.Overall, I regret this purchase and wish I had went for one of the Japanese stainless kettles or the Le Creuset tea kettle. The design of this kettle needs safety and quality improvements.

This is a great kettle, not made in China. I looked quite a while to find something that was made anywhere but there. Nice wide base so it heats quickly. Looks great. Only issue is the whistle is not the easiest to use, since buying I have not used the whistle. I just have to make sure that I don't walk away and forget about it since there is no signal that its boiling.
