I am a former certified teacher and nuclear engineering technologist who is fussy about drawings I make to solve applied math problems. This set was purchased to accompany a drawing board. I am very happy with this set.

Pros: The quality of the tools is impressive - they're sturdy, durable, and designed to last. The set includes everything from compasses to protractors, which makes it a comprehensive one-stop solution for all drafting needs. The usability of this kit is significant, particularly for students who are just starting their studies in fields that require precise drafting and design. The tools are easy to hold, manipulate, and use, even for extended periods. The performance of each tool is also noteworthy. They deliver clean, sharp lines and precise measurements, which are essential in disciplines like architecture and engineering.

This educational set is an excellent choice for students who are only beginning to explore related subject areas. As soon as I spotted the protractor listed on the syllabus, I realized it was time to find some tools for my grandson. When I discovered this particular set, I was overjoyed. It not only includes essential items but also features a variety of additional tools that enhance learning and provide opportunities for deeper exploration and skill expansion across a menu of areas for children at an earlier age.

This is a really good set. It seems well thought out in the variety of tools included, and their function at fulfilling any technical need you may have for engineering. The tools themselves are of good quality, durable and functional. I like that it also comes with a pouch to hold everything. For the price, I was impressed with the collection and value received.

Alvin is well known for the quality of it's mechanical pencils for drafting, so I had confidence that this would be a nice set, and it is. The quality of all the plastic elements is nice and sturdy with edges that make it easy to mark measurements, trace curves, or whatever else you need to do. It's nice to have both and architect scale and engineer scale ruler in the kit. The quality of the compasses is very solid and they should provide very precise results. I have two Alvin mechanical drafting pencils but this is my first Alven lead holder. It's quality is as top notch as the regular mechanical pencils. The sharpener / lead pointer works well and is very handy. The quality of the eraser is good and its great that they include the brush for clearing the dust from your paper after erasing. Perhaps most of all, I love that they include the huge mesh bag to hold not only everything included in this kit but that also has room to add supplies you may already have. Overall a quality kit for a fair price.

This is truly a great starter set for someone who is learning to draft. Is it super-duper high quality? No, it is not, but for what you are paying for it, you get a really good start on your drafting needs. For some folks that just like the tools for casual use/drawing this will hit the mark nicely. You can always go back and buy some German manufactured pencils, rulers with different scale, compasses, etc. if you really want to.But for a student just starting off, this will not break the bank, and you'll get an idea of how to use the tools at a fraction of the cost. You can always upgrade later.

I was interested in this drafting set as a person who enjoys art but also sometimes needs to be able to scale up a smaller drawing into something larger. The scale rulers seemed like they would be helpful for that, and I loved the idea of having some other higher-quality supplies than I’d had in my arsenal up to now.The French curves will be a big help for certain types of drawing, and I love that they have an inking edge since I am very prone to smudges while using guiding tools. I can’t wait to try out the eraser shield. I’ve never had a tool like that and it opens up a lot of possibilities. It is very flat and at first I was sure it would be prone to warping, but I tried to bend it and it went flat again as if I hadn’t done anything to it.All the plastic tools also feel very sturdy and thick. I appreciate the fact that they are clear since it will be easier to position them correctly.I’m honestly a little intimidated by the compass set; I’ve only ever used the ones sold to school kids at the local drugstore and these look like a real cut above that. I’m going to have to research what some of the items in the set even are. I love the thick lead included and am mildly amused at the tiny sharpener included to keep a good tip on it. It appears the mechanical pencil takes the same thickness of lead since it includes a similar-looking sharpener as well.I’ll also be interested to try out the brush on my graphite drawings; I’ve always just very carefully blown the excess graphite away but this should make things easier. The wood handle is easy to hold, and the bristles are very gentle so they should not cause any problems on most types of paper.I’m also impressed by the included tracing paper. It is not bound into the protective folder it comes in, and is much thicker than the tracing paper I’ve had occasion to use. It feels quite premium while handling it; I’ll have to keep my eye out for similar products for the future. Since I’m in the US it is a bit unfortunate it is A4 sized, since that’s not a typical format around here, but I don’t tend to use standard office paper sizes while doing artwork anyway. This is a very cool set and while I can’t be sure how it would be viewed by a person with expertise in drafting, I’m very excited to use it for artistic purposes and the supplies I am familiar with are of good quality in my opinion. At minimum it should make a nice gift for someone just starting out in the discipline.
