I gave one star only because this valve is the wrong one for my application. I needed a valve with four screw holes and this one only has three. Unfortunately, you can't see the number of screw holes in the picture, nor does that appear in the specs for the part. Other than the number of holes, this one looks just like the part I wanted to replace. If your application has three holes, I would bet this part would work just fine.

We had bought parts at both big box and hardware stores, but could never get the right fit. Finally found this one on Amazon and it fits perfectly. The bathtub faucet dripping has stopped.

I'm reviewing 2 parts:American Standard 023529-0070A cartridge and 051091-0070A Pressure Balance Unit.I own an American Standard Reliant+ Model 1495.xxx Shower faucet. My shower faucet was squealing anytime water was used anywhere in my house. It grew louder and louder. I also heard what sounded like loose water pipes from water hammer whenever water was turned off anywhere in the house. These 2 replacement parts eliminated both problems! No need to tear open a wall to secure loose pipes. Maybe there were no loose pipes. Maybe the pressure balance unit doubles as a water hammer arrestor. I really don't know but the problems are solved. The 023529-0070A part came with the hot limit stop already attached so I didn't need to use the old hot limit stop.I did NOT order a new 'disk with screws' (I call it a plate). I was able to use the previous one: 051207-0070AYou will need to unscrew 3 screws to remove the cartridge and 3 more screws to remove the plate that separates the cartridge from the pressure balance unit. Save all screws and save the plate for reuse. To remove the old pressure balance unit I had to use a pair of channel locks and carefully and slowly worked it out of the valve by pulling and twisting. It was in tight. Think tooth extraction.FYI, I unscrewed and opened the old pressure balance unit to see what it looked like. The rubber diaphragm inside was rotten with little black specs. There was also small bits of calcium. I suspect the noise was coming from the pressure balance part and not the cartridge but I suggest replacing both. The original parts for this faucet lasted 23 years. The second set lasted 17 years. This is the third set of parts.NOTE: The parts for this faucet were modified by the manufacturer in June 1995. Prior to 1995 different part numbers were used.

all the hardware stores sell the newer type of this piece but this one is the one I needed for older American Standard showers. Amazon (or the seller) needs to provide a face on view of this item so you can see the pattern on the face to insure it is right. I learned from American Standard that the type of valve in the wall that requires this piece is R121 valve body and they did not have a stock of this item but I found it here on Amazon. Just wished Amazon (or the seller) showed the face of this piece so I was sure before I purchased it. This piece did fix my dripping shower heads so thank you so much. I do not want to take the shower apart again to provide the picture so you guys should fix it on here

Lack of pictures on this was annoying as heck!I eventually decided that there's three pressure balancing units similar to this: the M952100-0070A; the 077171-0070A; and this, the 051091-0700A.The 077171 was noticeably different -- definitely not what i was looking for.The 952100 looks similar enough that I thought it was a newer model of the 051091. In fact, everything seems like it might line up, right up until you try putting the fixation plate on! Definitely no match there.Fyi, the cartridge seems to be the same for both the 051091, and 952100. The 023529-0700A 47mm cartridge fits just fine. Please note that these pictures are of my old, broken unit. The leak came from a slight fracture just at the top of the larger opening. In one of the pictures I took, showing the rear of the unit, you see only one O ring. There's actually two. Be sure to pull the old ones out from the valve before installing the new unit!Oh! Very important! This did NOT come with a fixation plate, or screws, so do not toss out your old one! Yes, I see that the description says "Includes disk and screws," but that just isn't true. The fixation plate is the metal part that clamps the balancing unit in to place, and the cartridge screws on to the plate as well. The assembly order goes something like valve > balancing unit > fixation plate > cartridge > handle. My plate is some sort of metal (steel? I don't know), and I'm willing to bet that it will never fail on me.

Picture is terrible and seems to be also, on American Standard's website. There are two types and this model has a large cutout on the front that isn't very viewable on any pictures. I removed the old one (darker grey piece) by removing the two screws holding it in place and was able to swap. This would have been an unusable part without doing this. After "plate" swap I was able to put back into place and is now working fine.

Got this part and it works fine. Cured rattling-pipes syndrome. The old pressure balance unit in my shower was VERY stuck. HINT: after removing the outer cartridge, and unscrewing all retaining screws; and being careful to not flex and bust the piping, bust off the grey outer piece from the old pressure balance unit with a screwdriver. Using 1/4" or smaller diameter drill bit, drill 2 or 3 holes at odd angles into the stuck unit, being careful to not ding the inside of the brass housing. Doing this will compromise the structural integrity of the old, stuck unit; which will make it much easier to remove. After drilling a few holes, reach into the area around the housing and press inward with one hand; and with the other hand, take a pair of long needle-nose pliers, insert them into the two original outlet holes (hot/cold) in the pressure balancing unit, and pull the old unit out. It's like pulling a tooth with tough roots!
