You simply remove the keeper, & spin the stem 180 degrees & it becomes usable for hot or cold faucets.

I have a business that has 12 sinks with American Standard faucets that require this size cartridge. The building is now 9 years old and for some reason within the last 6 months I have had 6 faucets where the cold water side has started leaking due to deterioration of the bottom rubber part of the cartridge. These through Amazon are exactly the same as from the local plumbing supply store, and cost a third. Now I keep a couple as spares and can perform a repair in about 10 minutes. Perfect fit and perfect function.

While I'm sure the part is fine, it was the wrong one (I needed the slotted end, not the square end). The replacement is a perfect fit for my faucet, so this one is probably just as good, if it's the one that you need.
