Replacing motor is the easy fix for sticky running boards that don't fully retracted or deploy. After a couple of years of extensive lubing and cleaning the boards on my Jeep a couple times a season, the problem was just that the seven year old motors were slowly failing. Quality product.

The part fit perfectly and worked great! Quiet and powerful! Pretty easy repair too! Problem is that here it is 13 months later and it just failed. I've seen many similar reviews and I'm considering just going to fixed steps.

You know, I absolutely LOVE DYI projects… especially when it comes to my own vehicles. I have replaced almost every mechanical/electrical component of my AMP Research Power Steps, but it's so frustrating that these things are so unreliable and faulty. I own a 2014 Toyota Tundra Crew Cab, and the steps are such a nice touch... WHEN THEY'RE WORKING!!! When I tell you that I finally realized why Toyota (the most reliable automobile company in the world, by the way) did not add the Power Steps as an option for their trucks? That's not an understatement. If you notice, their steps are fixed, not automated. They must've done research and learned that it's not worth putting their stamp on such a cheaply made motor. It's a BOSCH... RME... Okay; cool. This is the second time I've had to replace the motor for the driver side step (since 2017 when I bought the truck), and the Tundra isn't even my daily driver!!! WTH???!!! Luckily, the folks at AMP are good with customer service (most of the time).I’m at a crossroad… I feel like I have to give this motor 2 stars because in my mind there’s no reason why a motor should be so unreliable, man. The design is BOSS, now… don’t get me wrong. But can you imagine when these pieces of **** stop working, and you’re driving down the road with your steps just left in the ‘down’ position? Or when they stop working and your steps are left in the ‘up’ position (in a lifted truck) which makes it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to access for replacement?! Well, mine were in the ‘down’ position a few years ago, and in the ‘up’ position this time around! GOOD LORD!!! I was unhappy because there were no videos on YouTube telling me how to bring the steps down without removing them! That’s a lot of work!!! AMP told me I could access the motor by using a screw (hex key/Allen wrench, I learned) and placing it in the center of the motor, twisting it and therefore lowering the steps. I tried it, and Eureka! It worked! Actually, after that, the motor kept working, so I considered returning the one I bought from Amazon. Unfortunately, it stopped working again and was then stuck in the ‘up’ position… AGAIN!!!!NOW I’M MADDER THAN MAX!!! I tried multiple times to get that thing out of there and even took it to a local shop who told me to schedule an appointment the following week, and that they’d need ‘half of the day’ to do it for about $150. Appointment didn’t work, had to reschedule, still didn’t work for my schedule. Jerks must’ve not wanted my business. I tried another local mechanic who stood me up twice. I’m like “There’s a reason these appointments aren’t working; I can do this on my own” and even had a daggone dream where I completed the task. I got under there so many times and then came up with a master plan. Essentially, I had to nude… nude… LOL!!! NUDGE the motor out of it’s housing to lower the step. There’s no core reimbursement, so it ended up being broke into two pieces. For months, I had to slide out of my seat… and I’m 6’6”, but it was still difficult gaining entry into that thing! Well, last week Friday, I completed my task! I was thrilled that my plan worked, but I thought of buying another one to have on stand-by… because these things are destined to quit working. Such a shame, man. Either way, 2-Stars. Something so faulty SHOULD NOT be so pricy. When they’re working? They’re working!! But when they break? And believe you me… they will break… then you just realize they broke your bank account for no reason.I hope this helps. I’m not certain if all motors are the same across the board, and I hope they have redesigned these things in the last few years to make them more reliable because I’ve been through 3 of these in just a little over 5 years. Such a shame, man. I HATE poorly designed things, and I hate giving little stars, too. This is a tough one, but man, that’s how things go sometimes. Take care and have a wonderful day! (=

I have the AMP Research Power Boards on my 4" Lifted 2016 Jeep Wrangler and the motor went out leaving the boards stuck in the "UP" position so getting in and out of the Jeep has been a challenge until I found this replacement. The item was received quicker than expected, fit exactly, and solved my problem. I would highly recommend this part and vendor.

I purchased to replace my original motor that died due to lack of care (the installer told me it was maintenance free which is NOT true). This motor fit exactly with no adjustments needed. It also sounds GREAT and retracts the runners perfectly. I will definitely do an update with how long this new motor lasts, now that I know how to properly maintain them to save the motor.
