  • Dogfish Shark Dissection: Anatomy Lab's Preserved Dogfish Shark is perfect for studying shark and vertebrate anatomy. Compared to other vertebrates the shark specimen has a unique skeleton completely made up of cartilage.
  • Hands-on Learning: Through specimen observation and dissection, students learn basic Chondrichthyes anatomy and gain a better understanding of this vertebrate species. Perfect for science students studying comparative anatomy, biology, marine biology, and physiology.
  • Vertebrate Anatomy: Dissection is a great teaching tool to learn about the complex organs and organ structures of Sharks and how they compare to other vertebrates. Students will study the unique features of the shark. The speciments are 22-27 inches in length, a great size for easy dissection and detailed observation of internal systems.
  • Plain Injection Specimen: Plain injection specimens have not been injected with colored latex so the arterial, venous and hepatic systems are presented in their natural colors. Plain injection dissection specimens are ideal for understanding anatomical structures without the aid of artificial highlighting, making them a more advanced dissection specimen.
  • Best Classroom Experience: Each specimen is designed to be used by 1-2 students. The preserved shark specimens are moist vacuum packed and sealed in one or more heavy mylar-coated poly bags. The fixative process offers superior preservation quality with low formalin odor and easy disposal, for a long-lasting more enjoyable classroom experience.

Double versus non-injected specimens

Realistically Colored or Vibrantly Contrasted

Plain Injection Specimens: These specimens have not been injected with colored latex, so the arterial, venous and hepatic systems are presented in their realistic colors. Plain injection dissection specimens are ideal for understanding anatomical structures without the aid of artificial highlighting, making them a more advanced dissection specimen.

Double-Injected Specimens: These specimens have been injected with colored latex, resulting in the arterial system appearing red and the venous system appearing blue. Double injection brings the anatomical structures to life in a brilliant, didactic manner, giving students and instructors brilliant visual pathways of fine anatomical features.

I ordered this shark for dissection for my 7th grade class. The specimen was 23 inches long, as advertised, but small and was preserved poorly. It was very difficult to dissect with the position that it was in. I am very disappointed. I have ordered sharks before, but this one was the worst. I will look elsewhere for sharks next year. I would have returned it, but was not able to check the condition due to packaging. I would love a replacement.
