Like David Robertson mentioned , plug it in and put key to run position to set motor to 2 wheel drive so the socket lines up with the shifter shaft , I did not do this but just engaged the shaft and turned motor ass'y so bolts holes lined up and installed bolt then while holding against spring load tightened the bolts , then put key in and tested . It works great , much better than when I purchased the truck , it may have been starting to malfunction at that point , really happy with this purchase .

Does not fit 2009 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 despite both Amazon fitment and product description saying it would. I have the original Borg Warner transfer case on my Ranger, the transfer case ‘male’ end is a different shape than the receiving ‘female’ end of this product. Double check you are getting the right fitment for your vehicle, which the product photos do not show. You can see the side by side comparison to the OEM and transfer case in my photos.

This did not fit my 2008 Ford Ranger 4.0 even though it says it will. The provision in this actuator is too small for the shaft from the transfer case to fit.

This seems a quality product. Transfer case shifts as required. Time in service will tell the tale.Hint. Plug it into the wiring harness and make certain the dash control will make the center socket rotate. Before you bolt it into place. Also make certain the center socket is aligned with the shaft. Two left hands? Get help.
