To start with, the pump had not been assembled properly at the manufacturer. See the included photo. There were rubber bushings that were loose and not in place and the pump was not secured in the housing. Next, the hose fittings that came with the pump did not fit in the hose. Not with any lubrication or force. I had to use some of the extra fittings that came with the filter. The threading on those fittings seemed to be too shallow to get a good tight hold. They all leaked. This did not matter on the pump since it is under water anyway. I found the fittings that came with the pump, though too large for the diameter of the tubing, could with much effort, be modified to fit in the tubing. They made a better, leak free fit for use on the filter where a leak would be a huge problem. When I asked customer service for more of these, they threatened to void my warrantee for using them on the filter instead of the provided (leaky) fittings. I would not recommend Aquascapes. I am about to put it back in the box and return in for a refund.

What a hung of junk aquascape should be ashamed of selling such a terrible product.

Waited to review until the "clean" indicator light came on. It took two weeks. Backwash worked perfectly and lots of gunk came out. Pond is much clearer. Fish and plants are happier.

No issues - exactly as described. Fast and quick shipping. Products are well made and solid. Work as advertised. Pump is very powerful and can overwhelm a waterfall or spillway. Ensure sufficient depth to contain waterflow. Great value. Very happy with purchase and shipping.

This works very well my pond is crystal clear. It will be very easy to backwash. Much less effort than cleaning the old pump filter. The plastic couplers are very particular and you must take care when installing them or you will have leaks.

Be warned!!!! I ran this item a total of 25 hours so far but ONLY when I was present because I read (AFTER I bought the item and it was too late to return) about the clamps popping and draining ponds . And what do you know, I left it on today for an hour or two and one of the clamps came undone and water was coming out at a decent rate, LUCKILY only a couple inches of water out of my 5000 gallon pond got out (Still significant). If you get this item, MAKE sure that you have the item within the liner perimeter (like a waterfall) and COVERED, because if just one of the clamps pops, the water will shoot out 4 or 5 feet. Therefore if the clamp pops and if the unit goes underwater then at least your GFI should trip and you would save your fish from a terrible fate. I did everything by the book on putting this together, I will take it apart tomorrow and just take the pressure filter out, argh. Live and Learn. Make sure you do your home work before buying this product...what they say is VERY true about the clamps popping which was not available at Amazon reviews! If the company would offer a credit I will take it in a MINUTE! Hope this review was helpful and would make someone think twice about purchasing.Edited Since Posting: Bumped up to 3 stars: The company has sent me a retrofit kit with larger clamps and a better dial set-up. There were problems with the older models that they "recalled" hence the retrofit kit. So far it has held-up, about 50hrs running (I still have not left it running without observation, not until I put the pump on a water level cutoff valve, which I bought on Amazon but haven't hooked up).So far so good.Dec 2016: Bumped up to 4 stars - The electronic part that the UV light plugs into went out. Aquascape sent me a new unit replacement without charge. They do take care of their customers. The only reason I didn't bump up the product 5 stars is that I still am nervous about the system running when I am not present (it's only one of 3 pumps in my pond). If it ever fails, it will empty my pond and kill my fish, I would probably be more at ease if a water level shut off solenoid was added (which I plan to add this Spring).Customer service = 5 starsProduct = 3.5 stars (after retrofit).

*** Updated 20220530 ***After 8 years of great experience . . . the filter had finally crack and leaks due to aged / UV for having been out in the elements by the pond.It has been such as great filter for me, I'm ordering the second one ;-)will let you know how things go .. .*** Original review June 2014 ***I ordered this set of pump and filter as an upgrade my existing Laguna pressure filter that starts to leak. I was skeptical with the various feedback regarding the filter clip (that blue clips as shown in the picture) but having tried with other brands with comparable capacity and price that all ended up having to return them on first day, I decided to give it a try.About the shipment:It was quite OK, ordered on the 2nd delivered on the 5th.The packing was well done, all items packed neatly with adequate damage protection.Inspection upon arrival - all was in good shape. What's been shipped:This filter kit has all the items as shown in the picture plus AQSC Y-valve (search AMAZON item with ASIN = B00B93KF3E). For those who wants to know, UK 3500 filter has a max flow rate of 5200 GPH.About the products:- The filter and pump are well made with good materials, the one exception is on those filter clip (the blue color ones). As they seem to be not as well design as the other parts.- In the filter box, there are 6 bags of bio balls.- Additional hand-screw adapters (this will safe you some trips to h/w store.)- Putting them together is not difficult but "be very careful" how you lift the top of the filter and place them back. Read the user manual first (it has lots of pictures - very easy to follow) Or else you can break those clips. This is indeed a definite weak point for this filter.About the first experience:I configured them such that the water from the pump will get to Y-valve, one output to Filter intake. Filter output to waterfall. The other side of Y-Valve output to the pond. This way, I won't hit the filter with max flow rate. Well, I turn it on an it ran great. Water came off the water fall nicely as expected. But a few minutes later, one of the clip came undone by itself (due to the water pressure). Water was gushing out from the side of the filter. Good thing I was there to turn them off before it's too late. I adjusted the valve to reduce the flow to the filter. Turn it on again, well, same result within a few minutes !!! Note that the clips were not broken or anything, it's just not strong enough to withstand the pressure building up (keep in mind, in this config, it was not any where near max flow rate)I immediately contacted the seller "CSJ&J Garden" via email to let them know of the problem. Josh got back to me same day. After the dialogue, he sent me the refreshment kit. That has the new design clip set. With all parts replaced, I set new config to have all water from the pump into the filter in take and turn it on. This time around, it worked fine at max flow rate. There was a little seeping on the side at first but after I checked and re-seat the main O-ring. It has been working well with no issue since.Overall view - after the hick ups:I decided to keep the the filter and pump (after all I need this upgrade to begin with !!). My main reason is the great service from Josh plus AQSC demonstrated that they know of the problem and they are working to get it right. There is still one more weak point on the hinge, although not as serious as the clip. if they improve this part, this filter will be a rock solid sponge-free product out there at this price range.I have no doubt that it will work as there are plenty of bio-balls, high flow rates and a very strong UV light. It has the ability to select 6/12/24 hrs for UV to be On. Over the life of the the UV lamp - this may ramp up to some $$ saving on running cost.I give this 3 stars (5 stars for Josh support, 1 star due to hick ups - so average = 3).
