About this item

  • Zebra Nerite Snail shells are elegantly beautiful and feature stunning gold and black zebra-like striping. They look particularly stunning under a high quality marine aquarium light.
  • Nerite Snails are totally safe with aquatic plants and absolutely NEVER reproduce in freshwater, so they are perfect for the aquarium keeper wanting to avoid snails reproducing in their tanks.
  • There is no need for harsh aquarium kits with Nerite Snails, as they are the single best eating snails in freshwater. They wipe off aquarium glass, aquatic plants, decor, etc.
  • They are completely peaceful and safe to keep with all nonaggressive freshwater aquarium fish (such as Cherry Barb, Hatchet Fish, etc.), as well as dwarf shrimp (such as Chocolate Shrimp).
  • Basic aquarium accessories required, including an aquarium pump (e.g. quiet air pump). All Aquatic Arts brand plants and animals come with a 100% alive arrival guarantee, plus free email support!

Zebra Nerite Snails add color to your tank decor and naturally clear any home aquarium! These freshwater snails are known as one the best eating snails in the aquarium hobby. They also feature gorgeous coloration and patterns, making them both striking and useful fish tank decorations. Most Zebra Nerites have shells with gold and black zebra-like stripes. These colorful snails reduce the aquarium green bloom affect because they feed on uneaten fish food, plus they wipe off aquarium glass, aquatic plants, and tank decorations (such as ceramic aquarium decor). They also clear your tank substrate to keep it the correct color. These snails are peaceful and safe to keep with any nonaggressive live fish, aquarium shrimp, and freshwater plants (such as a Marimo Moss Ball). They look particularly fantastic in a half moon aquarium! Nerite Snail is sometimes misspelled as Nerita Snail. Zebra Nerites range from 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter, and while most remain around 1 inch throughout their lifespan, the occasional snail will reach 1.5 inches. Their small size makes them perfect for the micro or nano aquarium. They are perfectly suitable for plant tanks. Some Nerite Snails are initially finicky about eating dry snail food, but typically enjoy spirulina, wafers, and other foods with plenty of plant content. We recommend keeping the water line relatively low and spaced far from your aquarium rim, as this snail will occasionally climb up beyond the water line.

Snails are all obviously zebra snails as I requested. They arrived with vibrant colors, in good health, and moving around quite a bit. Their packaging was well thought out and considerate to us as customers as well as to the snails. I’ve gotta say this Seller really seems to know what they are doing and I look forward to ordering from them in the future.

The only reason I gave them just the three stars is because they are a lot smaller than I thought they’d be but they’re still beautiful and I’m sure they’ll get bigger. They came very alive. We packed very well and I will be ordering again.

My zebra snails arrived today and are all alive and healthy. I thought they might have a little more yellow to them but nature determines that. Thank you for the speedy delivery as well.

Update: My first order was great. See below review. I was so pleased that I decided to order three more. Well, not only did I not receive nerite snails, I received seven DEAD mystery snails! The container stunk so badly I could smell them b4 I opened the lid. So disgusting. Sent pics & msg to seller yesterday. Hoping to hear back soon.I couldn't be happier with the seller. I ordered three zebra Nerite snails and received four. Shipping was prompt and they were healthy. Within five minutes of placing them in my aquarium they were crawling around in search for food. I would not hesitate to buy from the seller again.

These snails went straight to eating my algae and it is all gone now. They all lived now a month later. They ate my green, brown and blue algae. I'm so excited, my tank is sparkling.

The snails arrived safely and there were six of them, so I was immediately grateful. They all arrived alive and they are in my tank doing fine, at least I think so. They love to hide in the dark, so I have not seen all but two as they tend to hide in the inside of my aquarium decoration. Their colors are spot on, but unless you have bright aquarium lights, do not expect them to look as spectacular. In dim lighting they may appear more brown. I have mine with Goldfish with a water temperature of 71-74 degrees and the snails are doing just fine. I find mine mostly active at night. Because they are tiny, don't expect miracles as far as tank cleaning is concerned because they can only eat so much being so tiny. I would certainly not add these small snails to tanks with larger tropical fish who might eat them or damage their shell by trying to eat and then spit them out repeatedly. Also, since these snails are tiny, it even takes them awhile to come out of their shells if you have fish who are inquisitive and peck on them constantly. I have caught one trying to climb above the water line, trying to get out of my fish tank, so be warned. As far as them not being able to breed, I'm afraid that no one told my snails that because I do have small baby snails in my tank and there are no lives plants, so they are the definitely from these snails purchased. They are truly beautiful and the shipper did a wonderful job shipping them quickly, safely, and, very kindly, added an extra snail.

Snails arrived fast and healthy with only a few that never made it out of their shell, but seller more than makes up for this with a few extra. Snails are beautiful, interesting, and will definitely take care of any algae your tank has, (maybe too well). Seriously this is a no-brainer. Details below:About 4 weeks ago I had an algae bloom, probably due to direct sunlight. The stuff quickly covered the walls of my tank. Tank tested out normal at 0-0- and nitrates @ 12 ppm. Time to get me some snails. Snails arrived two weeks ago, and within 4-5 days these guys devoured every bit of algae in the tank, even the places I did not think they could get to. When I said "maybe too well" earlier; I (double) tested today and aquarium levels came in @ 0-0- and Zero nitrates. Because of this I would recommend no more than 10 snails in a 55 gallon tank. Tank details below:Stocked with 5 large and 3 sm/med goldfish and 20 snails.6 month old 55 gallon aquarium FULLY cycled800 GPH Submersible Circulation Wave Maker, which runs for a couple of hours a day.strong air pump with one 5 inch bubble stoneQuietFlow 55/75 @ 400 GPHgravel and sand substrate with 2 medium sized plants (wisteria)

I love the snails. Great customer service given, even though I didn't need any service! An email is sent to describe the shipping procedure and to let the customer know to make any needed arrangements with the Post Office if their package is going to be outside in cold temperatures on delivery day. PO tracking number allows for updates by email and text, very convenient. Snails arrived safe and sound and snug and warm with an introductory letter. The shipping material that some say is "messy" is no big deal. Have a newspaper ready to open the box on. The warming packet was still producing heat. I divided the snails into two tanks, one for myself and one for my aunt. All of mine are doing well and got to work right away, eating algae. Now, they are, in fact, snails, so they do take their time! A nice tank addition. Varying sizes. Some seem to enjoy a piece of driftwood and the others are wandering around. In my aunt's tank, one is active, the other seems to possibly in that hibernation state that they are known for. He's not dead, at least not so far. I will keep checking. I'll likely do repeat business with Aquatic Arts in the spring, maybe add some shrimp. Don't want to overload my biomass. In my local area, Nerites are very hard to find, even in the high-end LFS. Likewise for other freshwater inverts. This is a great option for me, then.
