I got this rack for my desk with the goal of getting more organized and shifting all the piles of paper and files from horizontal to vertical. It works.Assembly was straightforward. The package includes three tall U-shaped pieces and four smaller ones, four screw-on feet for the corners (highly adjustable, so the rack will be stable even on an uneven surface), enough long screws to fix the U-shaped pieces securely, and even a small hex-wrench to set the screws. No additional tools needed.Initially, my biggest issues were (1) getting the U-shaped pieces detached from the plastic zip tie that kept them together during shipping (I ultimately used a box cutter – and may have scratched some of the surfaces in the process) and (2) deciding where to install the cross-pieces, because the holes on the bottom provide flexibility in the width of the rack spaces (I ultimately chose wider spaces for the taller pieces and two wide and two narrow spaces for the shorter pieces). You can see on the photo how I did this. The width of the rack is good for file folders and letter-sized papers that are placed horizontally on the rack. Smaller items will fall down in the middle of the rack, so I am using business-sized envelopes or folders to store these items.I am using this on my desk to store frequently used folders and materials that I want to keep within reach. (If I file them in a drawer or box, they will fall into the “out of sight, out of mind” category.) In addition to file folders, I also have pads of paper, storage boxes for colored pencils, and a sketchbook. This is a huge help in getting my workspace organized and less cluttered!
