I wanted a spotter scope with the 45 degree angle eyepiece. My current spotter is the Swarovski ST80 Straight scope…so I got the Athlon Ares G2 20-60X 85mm 45 degree UHD spotter to be its replacement at the shooting range. I am a bench rest target shooter. The Athlon Ares is very well designed & constructed…fit, form & function are beyond my expectations. The Athlon Ares has a much longer focus cycle than my old Swarovski ST80…& the sighting image also surpasses the Swarovski. The Athlon is equal to & in most aspects surpasses my old Swarovski in almost every aspect…& at one-third the cost! The 45 degree angle of this Athlon is easier on the neck to use than the straight scope configuration. I looked for any flaws within this spotting scope…but I really could not find one. I am really beyond pleased with my new Athlon Ares spotting scope. If I have an issue with this spotter is that Athlon does not make or sell a carrying storage case that is of a higher grade of construction & quality. I really do not care for the very cheaply made & flimsy carrying case that comes with this scope at all! I will probably replace it with a carrying case made by Kowa…a very high quality case. This is my only issue found with this purchase. Overall I am very pleased with this spotting scope & highly recommend this spotter to anyone looking for a fantastic scope!

Large and bright .. BUT ....... CLARITY IS THE SAME AS THE HIGHLY RATED $150 ATHLON TALOS ... AT 6 TIMES THE PRICE??STRAIGHT MODEL SHIPS WITH A OVERSIZED SLEEVE FOR AN ANGLED MODEL .. MISTAKE OR TRIED TO SAVE MONEY? MAYBE OK FOR STORAGE .. BUT NOT FOR FIELD CARRY.

Great optics! Very impressed with the image quality of this scope. Crisp focus throughout almost the entire magnification range. I use this scope for digiscoping and backyard birding. I have been able to get great pictures with a Celestron NexYZ phone mount and an iPhone 13. Overall, extremely happy with this spotting scope!

Yes, I have tried better optics and I would LOVE to be able to justify a Zeiss, Swarovski, or Leica, but there are many other toys that I can buy now for that money since I bought this Ares C2.This optic is heavy, so don't buy it if you need portability for hunting of birding, unless you can readily handle its bulk and weight. The ergonomics are really great. The eyepiece and focus ring are fluid-smooth to operate and I can quickly and very precisely focus with the focus ring and the mass of the scope makes it a pleasure to handle when mounted. The glass is really great for a sub-$1K scope. I was considering the Vortex Razor, but I spent less than half the money and I have an amazing optic. I'm not a purist, so I don't have to have crystal clear glass, just like I don't need a Ferrari. If I owned a Ferrari, I'd probably own a Zeiss. So this is great to me. It's really clear for digiscoping, using a Phone Skope adapter for my GoPro Hero 10.Straight vs angled: I have several spotting scopes and I also recently bought an angled Ares G2 65mm and it's really nice because of its portability (backpacks easily) and how clear it is optically. However, I like to spot moving objects, like flying birds and aircraft. Angle spotting scope simply SUCK for this. Our brains don't adjust on-the-fly as readily with an angles optic.I bought this straight 85mm G2 and it's so amazing how truly fast it is to find objects, even moving objects, through a straight scope. I actually lock my elbow like an Olympic 10M match rifle shooter and rest the scope's body on the palm of my hand and it's really great how well it can be stabilized. However, this thing is best on a tripod, because it will give you a workout.I use a higher tripod to terrestrial viewing. I think that most people prefer to lean forward and look down when birding, especially if your subject is in a tree. The angled spotting scopes are the only way to go for that. The straight forces you to bend in weird, uncomfortable ways to see those objects. So I occasionally mount mine on a video shoulder rig with padding and it's so awesome how stable and convenient it is. I look like a total dork doing it, but I couldn't care less because it's a great system.I am now an Athlon fan and will feature them on my YouTube channel as a great American-based optics company.I hope that this helps someone.

Sturdy build and good eye relief. Clarity and chromatic aberration was not up to my other spotters for less cost. but. It's cost is up there with higher end scope but not performance.. I could not see. 22 caliber bullet holes at 200 yards with with white targets. It was a cool day with no mirage and excellent light. One can spend less for the same performance

I was a bit skeptical But after reading reviews and such I decided to give it a tryGlad I did It turned out great Compared it to a friend high dollar scope out in the desertand couldn't really tell a difference It could have been heat distortion leveling the fieldWell that's what he said
