Works great

I bought it to check the sugar content of my homemade sorbet (makes a big difference in the final texture) and it works great! Very easy to use as well.

Once calibrated it was very accurate when comparing with my hydrometer.

I purchased this after breaking my second hydrometer in as many months (hey, I've got 3 small kids and those things are delicate!). This works quickly and effectively. The price point is great and the quality is good enough to get the job done. I've used two different refractometers when brewing with a buddy, this one feels slightly cheaper (particularly the adjustment screw) but the trade off in terms of price is worth it for the hobbyist brewer like myself. I've ordered cheap chinese knock-offs that sucked, this is a cheap chinese knock-off that's actually pretty good and is a good value at the ~$30 price point.Edit: after a few months of use the refractometer has developed a few issues. The alignment of the unit is off, the band between dark and light is skewed at an angle. You can unscrew the unit slightly to adjust it but then it is loose. Also it requires recalibration every other use. Not terrible, but it's lower quality is obvious.

Our machine shop recently acquired two CNC machines--our very first ones--and we are in the process of setting up tooling and learning how to care for and maintain the machines. The owner gave me the money to buy this refractometer using my Amazon Prime account since it was cheaper than buying it from the local supplier. Having chosen one-day shipping, the item arrived promptly and I was very eager to try it out.The display in the scope is crystal clear, and the line which marks the degrees Brix for a measurement is very clear and easy to read. Not much light is required to be able to read, which is great because our shop is pretty dark in the area where the machines are going.I tested the refractometer using bottled drinking water and zeroed the line. I made a 10 percent by mass sucrose solution using my kitchen scale: 90g water, 10g sugar. The refractometer showed approximately 10.8 degrees Brix, so it seems to be very close tolerance, definitely good enough for determining coolant water/oil ratios. All in all, a very good item. I might buy one for myself just because of how cool it is. To be able to measure the speed of light traveling through a fluid at reasonable accuracy with a $30 device you can hold in your hand and even a baby can operate? That's pretty awesome.

It is just as described. Came with the refractometer, instruction sheet (with a few typos, but no big deal), a dropper/pipette, calibration screwdriver, and a hard case.Yes, a hard case. So, either they have gone back to including a hard case because of the complaints, or it is just sometimes included depending on what they happen to have.I calibrated it easily and tested it out on some Vernor's ginger ale. Worked great and it is easy to read as well. Looking forward to using it on my next brew day to check out the SG of wort as it comes out of the mash tun. With this, I'll be prepared to do a patrigyle brewday sometime soon.

I purchased this meter for measuing the ripeness of bronze muscadines. I followed the instructions for zeroing the meter but it was already set perfectly. Its easy to use the meter in the field. I tested it on some muscadines that I knew were not ripe and it showed a brix of 9 and the sour taste of the fruit confirmed that the brix was low. I cleaned the test plate with water and carefully wiped it dry and then tested some muscadines that felt, smelled and looked ripe. This brix was 15 which is exactly what the literature on this variety of muscadine said they should achieve when ripe. I did not check the meter accuracy with a hydrometer but the meter results matched the actual taste, 9 sour, 15 sweet. The meter is easy to use, easy to clean, and appears accurate. It works well in bright and in low light. For me it was exactly what I wanted and was an excellent value. Shipping was very prompt and the packaging was secure.

I purchased two of the same refractometers at the exact same time. Unfortunately, one came in great condition and calibrated correctly...the other had a missing screwdriver, broken apparatus cover and poorly calibrated. Needless to say, I'll be returning it for a refund/exchange... probably the former as the seller's quality control obviously isn't that good so don't know what I'll be getting in return.4 for the first unit, 0 for the second!

Have tried to contact the seller multiple times but have not received a response.I have used it multiple times since then and am only really comfortable with it now. However, I am noticing that it is wildly inaccurate. For example, I took a measurement today and of three readings, had a 7.7, 7, and a 5.2. This is not the first time this has happened and I am thinking my product is defective. I have calibrated the instrument as well but the results continue to read off.

The kit included the refractometer, instructions, a dropper, and an adjustment screw driver. The device was already calibrated properly. It has a hefty, quality feel to it. I've used it 4 times now and it works as expected. Easy to clean also. The dropper is a little less than 6" long, so you'll need another tool if you're pulling samples from a carboy.
