Is it important to calibrate this unit, which is easy to do by following the instructions and using the provided micro screwdriver. I have access to a higher-end commercial unit. I did a comparison test between this unit and the higher-end model and I found that the results were within 2 degrees of each other. It works perfectly for what I need it for. It comes with a sturdy zipper case and I highly recommended it.

I'd say pretty cool and at a good price

Works as expected. Much better than my mechanics dip stick “it’s close enough” method. I made up some 50/50 coolant solution and it’s right on. I would buy this unit again.

Would put 0 if I could. The product listed is a glycol refractometer in farenheit. The product received was a saline refractometer in celcius. Saline refractometers are 10 dollars less. Either a serious mistake or they tried to rip me off. Not happy.

Works great for checking glycol levels in cooling systems several times a year. Checked calibration using distilled water and it was right on the mark. I would highly recommend this for the technician or home owner wanting to get an accurate reading on glycol freeze protection. Those little floating ball pieces of junk you get at Walmart or the auto parts stores simply don't cut it. This gives you a perfectly usable and accurate reading on glycol levels.

Works great for anti-freeze testing. I haven't tried it for battery acid and may not as there is a warning in the instructions not to use acids as it may damage the markings. This may be a general warning for other tester grids and may not apply to this grid as it is specifically stated that it can be used for battery acid.

This is ABSOLUTELY the best tool I bought all year! Just dab a droplet on the lens and read the built-in chart. There is NO CONFUSION as to exactly what your antifreeze is protected to. It also will read battery acid. The thing I love the most about this device is when I place it in front of a 'know it all' experienced mechanic and ask them to tell me what it is. They get reeeeeaaaal quiet, pick it up, twist it around and frown in contemplation. 9 out of 10 guys haven't a clue. Then I tell them and you can tell they're gonna get one, especially for the price. :)

Used this refractometer to check the freeze protection level in my heating system after partial draining to install a pressure regulator. I found this easy-to-use refractometer to give precise readings. I tested the meter before I used it in case it needed to be re-calibrated. It was perfectly calibrated. If you have never used this style meter, you put a couple of drops of heating system fluid on the sloping front end of the meter, drop the transparent flap over the liquid and look through the back end of the meter (think microscope) to see the freeze protection level. Comes with a water dropper, full directions and a handy zippered case.
