My husband was excited to start playing it and was surprised at how well I chose this cymbal as a gift. He couldn’t believe I ordered it through Amazon. He could most likely describe the differences in all his cymbals and when he uses them at gigs however I do not have his expertise so I’ll simply say “thank you” for the great sounding cymbal.

Absolute winner!!! Creamy, rich sounds. Deeper overall tone than you would expect. Perfect crash, very solid bell sound. Really just a top notch cymbal. I am not faithful to any brand or line, so no bias here. Just a total winner.

I tried one of these out at my local music store today. This is one of the nicest sounding rides i have ever heard! Bright sound with nylon tip sticks....just about the right sustain and the 3 rivets give it a beautiful fullness!

Zildjian originally released this cymbal as a special edition tribute to Armand Zildjian. The pattern for this model, which predated the rest of the Armand series by a number of years, was Armand's favorite ride cymbal, which he christened "Beautiful Baby". That endearing name is laser engraved on the cymbal.I purchased mine in 2004, and love it so much that when the rest of the series hit the market I immediately grabbed a and . I was (and still am) pleased because the entire set is of my most versatile and has fit every musical situation in which I've used them (jazz, blues and classic rock.)This ride has a shimmering sound thanks in part to the three-rivet cluster. It has a good feel under the stick and works perfectly with brushes. A sweep of brushes has a very subtle, chime affect with the sustain of a sizzle cymbal, and if you run the butt of your brush around the lathe grooves, you get a different texture that still has more sustain than rides without rivets. The key to this ride and the other rides in the series is the umbrella like profile that characterized the Zildjians made in the 1950s and early 1960s. If you are familiar with Zildjian cymbals circa 1950s/60s you will see how closely the Armand rides resemble the vintage Zildlian rides, especially the profiles and bells. If you noticed in my selection of other Armands to complement this ride you probably caught the fact that I do not own any crash or splash cymbals. I personally do not use them, but I always make sure that ride cymbals I select can be crashed, and this ride is on exception. It crashes beautifully, as does its rivetless sibling, the 21" ride, which I also use. I am not advocating that drummers abandon crash cymbals, but am pointing out that this cymbal could have been marketed as a crash/ride and the label would have been accurate. It truly is a "Beautiful Baby".

ProsThere are songs that call for a more vintage sound, smooth and personality. This cymbal is a classic that never ages and their sound with 3 rivets is striking. Everybody loves the way it sounds, and that provides the drummer a quite remarkable feature that attracts the attention of anyone who appreciates a nice, smooth ride.ConsUnless you're a drummer with very strict style, this cymbal is not versatile for all types of sound. The bell is the worst part, sounding a little lower even if you are playing in a jazz trio.SummaryI use it as a second cymbal along with a 21 inches one and they perform a great job together.Depending on your sound, and especially if used as a second cymbal, the Beautiful Baby is an excellent option that worth every penny.

I went out looking for a vintage sizzle sound not knowing where to start and happened to find this at my local music shop. With an investment like this, I really wanted to make the right choice. I love it! I use it in combination with a K 22" custom ride. It is really nice for a washy crash too! The rivet give the cymbal a beautiful long bright sustain. Thanks Armand, it really is "beautiful baby"!

Among my three favorite cymbals - a circa late 60s 22" Avedis ride and 20" Avedis sizzle - this one stands out as my absolute favorite. It has a slight wash from the three-rivet cluster, and the same warm, rich overtones as my 22" ride, but also can produce a relatively high definition ping when playing fast tempo jazz. Although I rarely play rock, this cymbal would make an excellent second ride for texture for drummers who play that genre. As a jazz cymbal this one has the sound, slight sustain, and subtle overtone that would make it an ideal primary ride cymbal.
