I love this kit! How many times have you needed to break the insulation on a wire to measure the voltage on it? In the past, I've raided my wife's sewing chest for a needle. I use that to penetrate the insulation, and then put a meter on it. More often than not, I end up stabbing my finger. I've also had the needle find ground, and burn something out. This kit solves these problems. The test leads are nicely made. The cabling is very flexible, uses a decent wire gauge, and is soldered to copper colored or plated alligator clips with sturdy jaws and a strong spring. This is uncommon quality. The test leads, which come in several colors, accept three different kinds of connectors. There is a straight pin, angled, and a 90 degree pin. You can slide these into electrical connectors, or though insulation, to make contact. I've used sewing needles to do this, but this is so much easier. The third style is a straight pin, but has a little plastic piece which holds the wire in alignment with the test probe, which keeps that darn needle out of your finger! You can use these probes to get into various female connectors, like DE9's for com cables. You'll never get a regular voltmeter probe into the power connector on a computer motherboard. These slip right in. As a bonus, the test leads will also work on any test equipment that accepts standard male banana plugs. The banana plug end is over-molded with a built-in strain relief. A plastic carrying case is provided. This is an essential piece of kit for everybody who uses a voltmeter on their vehicle, boat, RV, or test bench. At first glance it might seem a bit pricey, but you have to consider all the custom moldings this kit provides.

Upon arrival, my first impression was this is cheap. Yes, it is cheap, but it comes with enough extra pieces that it might be ok for a little while. The wires are very thin, as are all the pieces. It looks like things will break easily. I have many years of experience working with electronics and electrical systems in a variety of situations, including automotive, heavy industry, and others. Having worked with a variety of different tools over the years, I can honestly say I will not be surprised when these break and fail. But I still think they will be useful for a little while.

Very complete kit with much versatility. It can be used for so much more than just automotive work.
