I give this unit 5 Stars with reservations, because the Bluetooth Programming App for Android phones is full of bugs. This is the second UV32 I've acquired with my own $$. Not a Vine "gift". The unit was brand new, box in the factory green plastic wrap. It came with the VFO "unlocked", and both transmits & receives 136 - 174 and 400 - 520 mhz. I've read that it also covers amateur and LMR in the 1.25m/219 - 260 mhz band, but I don't have a "220" antenna so I can't confirm. It does operate well on 2m, MURS (151 & 154 mhz), VHF Marine (156/157 mhz), and the same for 70cm, and GMRS/FRS (462/467 mhz. Would seemingly work well on VHF Hi and UHF LMR as well. It does receive VHF AM civil aviation, but it's not very sensitive, as even when I connected to an outside antenna, reception was "rough". But that's something else that I don't need. It also has a dedicated "bank" for the 7 U.S. NOAA, and 3 Canadian Weather channels. Reception of those is very good. I can pick 3 with ease. Also, it "saves" the channel you select. It doesn't automatically revert to "NOAA channel 1" when you turn it off & back on. That's a plus. The American GPS is accurate, and locks on fast, even indoors. Broadcast FM is good, but unless one can do it via "Chirp" there's no way to store any of those to a memory. It will scan for stations like the FM in most cars. I don't have any bench electronics, so I couldn't get actual readings of output power, but I was able to interrogate repeaters on VHF & UHF with this unit on High power 10 watts (advertised) that I couldn't with a standard 5 watt (advertised) portable. The transmit audio and signal was reported as very good. Received audio the same. Just remember that the speaker is facing away from you.It came (as did the first one), with only One memory bank "open". To be able to get the other 9 banks you'll need "Chirp", or Baofeng needs to de-bug the Bluetooth programming software. It's BAD... It temporarily "bricked" the first unit. But to be honest, memory banks & 1000 memory channels are a novelty. I've used portable radios in the public safety, military, and amateur services and was fine without those. The manual FPP (Front Panel Programming) is a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get a few frequencies programmed by hand, it's second nature. It has two independent VFO capability when set to Dual receive. So you have the option of "Memory/Memory", "Memory/VFO", or "VFO/VFO".The "carrying case" is a disappointment. Baofeng should incorporate an actual belt clip, or supply a proper & secure case for it. This unit is a doppelganger of the Motorola APX series but not close enough to fit in a Motorola carrier. But one of the innumerable cases available on line will work. It would have been nice if the security screw for the battery was "captured", e.g. a half moon clip to keep it from falling out/getting lost. The Baofeng supplied screwdriver is barely usable... it's too small. However, if you have or able to acquire an old Smith & Wesson flat side sight screwdriver, or a military P38 can opener, either of those work fine. It's a comfortable unit to hold & use. Just the right size, not too small like many radios being offered. It's not perfect, and I think the price could be $10-15 less, but it IS far and away better than brand's copies of the APX. The only real negative is the Buggy Bluetooth programming app, and I suggest avoiding it. I have used Bluetooth programming apps by other brands, and they worked fine.
