I like everything about this transceiver. However, for optimum performance, you need to replace the included antennas with ones that you can make yourself, eg a ground plane or dipole. You can also buy a better screw-on whip antenna like the Amazon #1 rated Nagoya NA-771. Use a counterpoise for best performance.

Nice little radio! Great improvement over the older uv5r easy to program with chirp. I can hit repeaters 30 miles away with a external antenna. Battery lasts a good while too.

Love these radios. They work very well. I can stay connected with neighbors around me very easy with GMRS. And I can also use as a ham radio UHF. Two radios in one.

Purchased radio to always have some information during power outage emergency etc easy to assemble and get started.instructions are hard to see upgraded versions of the manual are online for free

I tested this radio with my Surecom SW102, and my TinySA spectrum analyzer. It stays within FCC limits for spurious emissions, and is very close to the advertised power. Some frequencies are a touch over 10w, some a touch below. Never more than 8% low. It works with Chirp, is easy to use, sounds good. I'm happy with it.

I have a couple baofengs & a quansheng uv-k6. This is my best radio yet. Love the display & the audio sounds better and more clear than my other baofengs and the quansheng.The better power has been great too, as I live in a very wooded area.Not as customizable as the uv-k6, but nearly as versatile since this variant of the 5RM is fully unlocked.
