This starts the charcoal quickly and faster than in a flue or using a Firestarter.My only issue is the length of the cord and the placement of the cord. The cord is only about three feet long and i have to get an extension cord to reach the last couple feet to the plug. The placement of the cord out the back of the handle makes setting the starter on a table impossible as it falls over. The starter does cool down pretty quick once unplugged. Ive taken to just hanging the starter from a hook to cool down.

I used the BGE fire starters for the first year I had my Egg. I ran out of them and decided to get the electric starter. I have been using it for about two months in chilly Chicago. My observations:1. It takes six minutes to light versus ten minutes or more.2. The Egg seems to heat faster with the electric starter fire. This is helpful when cooking in cold temperatures.3. The electric starter could not be easier to use. Push into coals and plug in. Watch the clock, remove, unplug and let it cool.Though this is an optional accessory, I recommend it for frequent Egg users. It is easy and makes a difference in your cooking experience.

I had the same starter from Big Green Egg when I bought my egg about 5 years ago and it fell apart after 2 years of us. This one is an improve mode and is holding us just fine.. Don't be scared off the the old egg starters. This one is a much better quality.

This is designed for The Green Egg. However, it is great for the small diameter table top Weber BBQs. The angle design fits quite well.Once upon a time you could by standard electric lighters with a bend. Now they are all flat.This solves the problem and no more stinky lighter fluid chemicals.

Our Big Green Egg has exceeded all expectations as a smoker/grill. However, the Big Green Egg electric fire starter is very disappointing. The element has already burned up -- after only a couple months. The starter is certainly not worthy of the Big Green Egg brand name. Caveat emptor!
