This works a lot like a carpet shampooer, except for hard surfaces and rugs rather than carpets. There's just one thing I didn't really like about it. It doesn't have a button for controlling the dispenser. On a carpet shampooer, you'd normally do one pass to spray, and another to pull out the dirty water. That allows the cleaning solution to work for a bit before you remove it. This hard floor cleaner, on the other hand, seems to dispense the cleaning solution onto the spinning microfiber brush roll to keep it moist, vacuuming out the excess and whatever extra hair and whatever it finds along the way. That approach is okay, and works well enough, but it would be nice if I could spray a little extra on a spot and conversely turn off the dispenser to get the floor extra dry. That being said, it doesn't leave behind much water at all, so it dries very quickly. It's also very easy to use because you just turn it on and start running it over the floor. You only have to choose whether you're using it on a hard surface or a rug. That's it. Pretty easy. One bottle of cleaning solution came with the unit, but I haven't actually used it yet. Microfiber works well even with water, but someone who eats off the floor may prefer to use something a little more sanitizing than just water. I'm too lazy for that. The machine didn't really have a smell, but I can't review the odor of the cleaning solution it came with because I didn't use it (there's other options for that anyway -- it's only a little bottle they give you). The "ZeroGap" technology is something I find a bit humorous, because it's never truly without a gap. Getting this to clean the very edge is quite difficult because the ZeroGap edge is the front edge, so you have to push it up against the wall, then pull back and push forward with a zig-zag to push up against a different stretch of wall. You could run it lengthwise along the floorboard, but that's definitely not ZeroGap. Even pushing the front up against the floor board, it's a bit slow and just not that good at pulling dirt out of the corner. The roll would need to spin differently to really get into the crack where the baseboard meets the floor, so don't set your expectations high for getting the very edge of the room with this. The one thing I hadn't considered when I picked this up was the after usage cleanup process. There's a flush process and you're supposed to remove the filter and brush roll, rinse rinse the filter, and set both of them upright in a little spot in the stand that comes with the vacuum. It comes with two filters and just the one brush roll, but I expect both to last a while. It's just the process of cleaning up after the cleanup that renders this more useful for a whole-house cleaning day rather than a single room. Spot cleaning with it is certainly not a very appealing concept. For my initial attempt with it, I didn't vacuum the floor first so there was a lot of hair and crumbs and whatever that the vacuum picked up without trouble. It wasn't until I went to empty the tank and go through the post-cleanup process that I realized it would have been a little bit easier if I had vacuumed first. Because the dirty water had hair and stuff, I couldn't just dump it down the drain and when I dumped the water there was still a bunch of hair and whatever stuck in the bin. I had to dump it into the toilet, then fill it with rinse water, then dump it again. You get the idea. So it can handle hair and crumbs and stuff, but that definitely makes the post-cleanup process a bit more tedious.Overall, I really like this hard floor cleaner. It's not any louder than a vacuum (although maybe a slightly more annoying shrill than ours, but nothing terrible). It does the job well, is very lightweight, and doesn't take much effort to use while using it. Only the post-cleanup is a little bit tedious.

Debated about spending the money for a cordless cleaner. The imbedded battery is a "throw-away" in several years. The detachable and replaceable battery is a much better idea and value for the required amount of money. One that has a cord is a minor inconvenience, but all wet mop/floor cleaners have mixed reviews regardless of how they are powered. My wife and I finally landed on the Bissell. Afer-all, buying a Bissell is buying a name brand. However, when I briefly worked for Kroger as a "teacher in the workplace", I was briefly place at their dairy facility. What I witnessed was various diary products coming down the conveyor belt with not only Kroger labels, but also other labels like Sealtest, Minute Maid, etc. So while we may see "Bissell", we need to be aware that some of those off brands may be just as good or bad, but made by Bissell, or Hoover, or Fuller, etc. I am not saying that the "CrossWave" that I bought is not a good product; I believe it is, but the reviews I read about this machine were really no different than most of the reviews I read for similar models of different brands. Some good, some bad, but NONE were 5 star, which I found disappointing. Cleaning your machine after each use is important. Hence, like some bad reviews stating that "there was a mildew smell on its second use" would indicate that the machine was not put away properly after its first use. Then the review would end up being a one star review due to the negligence of the owner, who blamed it on the manufacturer. My only criticism of the product and the reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 star, was the learning curve associated with the after-care required. Aside from the small puddles of water left behind after a cleaning (which I believe is consistent in reviews of most other brands), understanding how to remove the roller and the assembly associated with that process including putting it back together to use again, I found frustrating. This may be true of other products too. But I found myself with the unit on my lap, upside down, trying to figure out how to put the roller back into the machine, fitting all pinnacles and parts into the proper holes in order to use it again.

This is an extremely well thought out and designed machine. First of all, it goes together very easily (though I neglected to remove the cardboard packing off the very bottom at first). It is quite simple to set up and use, much the same as using a vacuum cleaner, in fact it is a little smaller than our Shark so it gets in tight spaces, like between the toilets.I used it on an area rug that turned out to be filthy and cleaned about 1500 sq/ft of flooring with the provided shampoo. It really cleans the floor and our throw rugs beautifully without dumping a gallon of water on them like larger machines do. It's very efficient and everything dries really quickly.Lastly, it has a self-cleaning cycle that you use at the end that is genius. Most carpet/floor shampooers I've used in the past get all clogged up and nasty after a while and are difficult to clean. Not the case here. They provide a dedicated tray that you put the cleaner in and push a button, and it actually cleans itself! Just a quick rinse in the sink for the other parts and you are all set.The one con is it doesn't clean about an inch and a half on the left side of the cleaner, so you have to be able to turn around and go the opposite direction to get that last bit clean. This wasn't an issue for most things, but in some places, it just wouldn't reach, and you will have to clean the area the old-fashioned way.Highest recommendation.
