This railing works but there are a few things to keep in mind. Like another reviewer, I found the mounting holes don’t line up well with standard wall studs - so if you’re installing on drywall, you’ll either end up with an odd angle or need stronger anchors than the ones provided (which - per usual - are junk). I used my better quality wall anchors and this worked fine for a seldomly used area. It’s just okay.

Even though this ALHROEUO railing isn't exactly as described in its marketing (where it was called a "Black Metal Handrail for Indoor Stairs 3 Feet – Sturdy Wall Mounted Stair Railing, 440lbs Load, Non-Slip Square Tube Hand Rails for Indoor Stairs, Industrial Pipe Stair Railing for Home & Loft"), I am happy to have it in my home. Unlike the description says, it is not an "industrial pipe" railing nor is it non-slip. I am not sure that it would support 440 pounds, either, even if mounted directly to a stud. This is a light-to-medium weight metal, and it's hollow. The one thing it does have going for it is that it's so easy to install!I don't trust manufacturer's screws, having been burned too many times with starting a project only to find the screws aren't great, so I used my own to control the quality and make this project more time-efficient for me. Not a problem attaching it to the wall because of the design, which (as you will see) requires only 4 screws in each side. You mark the holes, drill 'em, and then set the screws. If only all handrails were this simple! I especially appreciate the ease of installation (and de-installation) because this rail is in one of the widest hallways in my nearly 100-year-old home (where the hallways aren't that wide), so anytime a piece of furniture or anything bulky needs to move between the lower and second floors, this railing must come off to maximize space. With the design, that's quick and easy to do. Quite functional in that way. It also represents a great value for the money, at $19.99 for 3 feet of railing. That's awesome and a deal worth grabbing. I am hoping to replace an existing railing (recently brought from Amazon) with this version if it is ever available in a 4- or 5-footer at a good price.

I ordered this mainly for my granddaughters as they were progressing in walking the stairs. But also, I’m aging, and have neck and back issues that have affected my coordination. Better to be safe than sorry. It was just the right size, and easy to install. It’s still black for now, but i may paint it to match the wall. I would buy again.

Problem #1--the rail is not adjustable, and that shouldn't be an issue if the mounting holes were at the distance of typical wall studs when the rail is mounted at an angle. When you have drywall you will be way better off to put something as important as a railing which is at times bearing considerable weight, into studs. My house was built two years ago and built to code, and the only way I could get at least one hole on each end to line up with a stud was to put it at an angle that was not parallel to the steps. Since this is just a temporary railing for while I am recovering from surgery, I guess it will do. I would rather have an odd angle than not in studs.Problem #2 the But speaking of studs, if you are installing this in a wall where you are going to have to put some or all mounting holes in the drywall or other open-backed facade, you are 100% going to need better drywall anchors. The ones sent with the kit are awful. I don't know if the only problem is that the plastic anchors don't have a lip that keeps it from disappearing into the drywall, or if the screws that go with the anchors are so ill-fitting for them that you have to put enough pressure on your screwdriver or drill to screw them in and the push the anchors right through the wall. After attempting to install two of these, one wall has a rail at an odd angle and looks like swiss cheese from all the places where the drywall anchors pushed through and had to be drilled in a new location instead. After the debacle trying to install the first of the railings, I went to a hardware store and bought some Cobra WallDriller Plus 105 lb #6 screws and anchors. Those ended up being very essential where I could not screw into a stud. One other thing about this railing. The railing I received came with directions that implies it comes with a connector that you can connect two railings to make one longer one. It does not. And they are not even designed to be connected to be connected to another railing, so even if it came with a connector, it would be of no use. I don't know why mine didn't come with directions that went with the railing. This is probably a case of you get what you pay for. If a decent railing is important to you, pay for a better one unless you are very handy with tools and hardware and don't mind going out to buy better fasteners.

Short and sweet - this is a strong straight bar to mount on the house wall just outside the front door. There’s only one step, so I can mount this on a suitable angle. The need falls on the personal side of life, so I’ll just say that with the heavy duty hardware sent with the rail, it will be sturdy and do what I need it to do.Update April 26. Finally mounted at the front step. Hit studs or backing behind the siding, and yea, it’s sturdy.
